Question

Hi,

Hoping for some advice from the Mac gurus on here...

Just bought a 19" Samsung Syncmaster 959NF monitor and plugged it into my G3 iMac. The monitor is capable of high resolutions - 1920 by something @ 85Hz - but the iMac's video card only offers 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz as the maximum.

The iMac apparently has an ATI Rage 128 Pro 4XL card. Do you know if it is possible to upgrade the video card in an iMac, and - if so - what would you recommend?

Thanks,
Gareth

I'm sure its not possible to upgrade the Video card on the imacs. The logic board is designed with little upgradability in mind . You could sell the iMac and try and pic up another machine. I might have a spare G3 later this week which you can uograde the cards on. If you want something small and snazzy looking G4 cube might be up your street.

Thanks - I thought about the replacing the iMac with something more business-like (doesn't need to be snazzy). Any idea what the iMac would be worth now? It's the G3 DV+ in Snow (or something else white), memory already upgraded to 384Mb...

Cheers,
Gareth
