I am trying to learn the finer points of photoshop, mainly inspired by the images I see on here and other BBS's pages.

I have managed to get to grips with most of the basics, but the thing I have yet to achieve with any degree of success, is lowering the appearance of a car, without making a right mess of it!

Can anyone lower the image below, and then give me a rough idea of how it was achieved ?

You need to select round the top half of the car, and accross the kerb line. Then Copy this (CTRLC) and Paste it (CTRLV). Then move this new layer down over the wheels.
