Hey dudes, I have a HP deskjet600 printer and i'm running XP. Now can I get this printer to work? Not atall, even trouble shooter cannot help me.
I have re started my computer and it's installed the drivers etc itself and I have manually installed the printer too. It comes up ready but doesnt print anything off even from the commant prompt! It just says out of paper It's not out of paper theres lots there. I can print a test page from the printer itself by pressing the paper feed key on the printer itself but I cannot print one from XP.
This is driving me nutts I have tryed changing the ports and everythink but no go.
Anyone any ideas?

are you using XP drivers for the printer? check your parallel port is enable in the BIOS. also check device manager everything is working OK.
can you plug the printer into another PC to test that it is working?

I had a similar problem with a Deskjet 97CXi, and in the end I had to go to the HP Download page and use the drivers they provide, as opposed to the ones available in XP.
In the end this did the job for me.

Yes it is XP drivers I am using as I have been to the HP site on they said I dont need to download anything from there. The device is said to be working properly.
In the BIOS onboard parallel port selected is 3bc/irq7 ??
The other choises I have there are 378/irq7, 278/irq5 and disable.

everything working OK in device manager? click on Ports. can you see ECP Printer Port (LPT1).
oh... you might wanna try this, but dunno if it will work...
create a text file and just type something in it. save it to the root. goto start/run and type cmd. at the DOS prompt, goto the root. then type print [yourtextfilename.txt] prn:
