Win 2000, XP or ME?

What's the spec of your system and what do you want to do with it.
I would say avoid ME though.
Games on a fairly high spec PC - XP
No games on a medium spec PC windows 2000
You'll need at least 128Mb memory for 2000 and 256 for XP
Disk space you'll need 2 gig free for 2000 and 5 gig for XP

I run XP perfectly well on my Laptop with 128Mb, and have done for over a year. I ran W2K on my previous laptop (96Mb) for over 2 years very happily. The extra memory will make it faster, but is by no means essential.

I'm asking myself a similar question - shall I upgrade to XP from W2k.
I've just updated my PC to Athlon XP 2k+ with 512Mb 266 RAM, Geforce 4 128.
Was a bugger to get W2k to accept all the kit (despite starting with a reformat/reinstall too)
I've got all the latest drivers from nVidia etc.
I've heard loads of good things about XP, but there seems to be issues with Geforce based cards, in particular with GTA3, which is running without any stuttering (even with 'trace' switched on)
I suffered from regular lock-ups for a couple of months when I first installed W2k before realising my MoBo chipset drivers needed updating 'cos of Geforce 2 issues (of course I tried EVERYTHING else before I worked that one out).
As a result I'm reluctant to install an 'unfinished' OS (although I'm aware that the previous mobo prob wasn't OS related)
Sorry to hijack the thread slightly Matt

XP is basically the same kernel as W2K, but with a myriad of improvements. W2K had lots of stuff bunged-in to make it look like Win98, but much of it was not really built into the OS. In some senses it was an 'unfinished' OS, whereas XP is that OS 'finished'.
Unless you're overclocking, or running ultra-new hardware that requires the very latest drivers or bios fixes, XP is the way to go.
Oh, and if you don't like the 'Fisher-Price'-style UI in XP, it's very simple to turn off.
