1Gb per month means that included in the price is up to 1Gb of downloads per month (including web pages, p*rn, whatever else you put on there). Unless you're pulling in a massive number of visitors, or you save your images on the site as uncompressed BMP files, you won't even get near that.

I've been with Titanhosts for years now and couldn't fault 'em (you can read my testimony on the titanhosts.net website - under Bluebeam Ltd). My WebReaper site has a high level of traffic (averaging about 9Gb of downloads per month) and it's always been reliable and fast. I also host My personal site (including the Scoob Owners' Page) too.

They're excellent.

Gb is a measure of the amount of data. In simple terms 1 byte would be equal to 1 character in text. 1 kilobyte is 1024 bytes. 1 megabyte is 1024 kilobytes and 1 gigabyte and 1024 megabytes.

A month is a measure of time. 28,30 or 31 days. ( a day is 24 hours).

So it would seem you are allowed to transfer 1 gigabyte of data in each month. So you have to predict the amount of data in your site, the likely number of people visiting the site and then the average data each visitor will need to transfer based on the expected usage of the site. This research should tell you if 1Gb/Month is sufficient.

A lot of people use them on here, I don't
1Gb is the amount of data that is read from your site by customers over that period, if you exceed that you may be charged extra, bandwidth costs are the biggest thing in hosting, unlike the USA where they practically give it away
Unless your site is going to be very busy very quickly or has very large files/pictures/documents that people view or download then I think you'll be safe with 1GB.
Some ISPs dont limit your transfer rate although their prices may be higher than Titan.(Lee)

For the record I also use Titan though only for some personal pages and I'm certainly happy with it.

One other point - many hosting companies advertise packages with "unlimited" bandwidth. However, this is usually cobblers. I know, 'cos I went through 3 different hosts before moving to Titan, all of which offered me an 'unlimited' package, but within about a week of moving the site to them, I'd used more than a gig, and they baulked at the idea and started talking about extra charges (£10/month/gig!!!! ).

So if you do need high data transfers, make sure you don't get stitched up.

I know of a company that doesn't charge for shared hosting extra bandwidth. Co-lo extra b/w is £50 per 5gb though on top of the 20gb per month you get...

If you want a chuckle about "unlimited bandwidth" check this :

http://www.unlimband.com/

1GB of traffic is a fair chunk. As Mark says, you'll have a job trying to use it all. We also operate a common sense policy, none of this 2p per MB surcharge cobblers. In reality you can use about 1.5-1.7 on a regular basis before we'd ask you to upgrade to a 2GB package.

Rich - no extra for shared hosting bandwidth ? Not a great business model that

I too have tried a few hosts, including US ones, which offer 'Unlimited WebSpace' and 'Unlimited Traffic'. I found most of these servers to have pretty poor uptime. I now have my personal site hosted on Titan and have not had any problems in that time!

I'm more than happy with the service from Titan

Si, Let me put it this way - I've been around lots of the so called 'big' hosting companies who'll remain nameless, and out of all of them, Titan have given me the best value, performance and technical support by far.

From the posts you had on this BB, I take it you're a (struggling) student who's doing a fair bit of server-side scripting on his course (asp, php, cf, database integration, etc..) - Titan offer support for all of these at very cheap rates.

You won't be disappointed.

gonna add my 2 cents worth.

I've been using Titan for a year now and it's great, cannot fault it. Was on Win50 but have gone to Win100, why? well cos I wanted to.

As for bandwidth, I do recall that I did mangage to exceed my limit, something to do with posting a link to a few donno avi files I had up there No nasty, gimme cash stuff, just an email with a gentle reminder, and I think I've been a good boy since.

As said, do it! you won't regret it! Oh, got my domain name from them as well.

good work Lee, and the rest of the team @ Titan.

Let's be honest, with the payment plan that Beef uses, it can't fail to be a good deal.
