I run 2 pcs - one amd 1.6 with XP. The other is an old 166 with win 95 which i basically use for the net. And yes tonight I totally wiped the hard disk on the old pc. Trouble is i don't have a boot disk, I have win 95 CD and Setup boot disk but have lost the serial no and I don't know how to get the pc to recognise the D: drive.

You should be able to get a Win95 bootdisk from http://www.bootdisk.com

No joy with this mate. Keeps telling me i cannot run this in DOS mode.
Basically on my c drive at present I have no files at all, Cd rom is not recognised and when I put mywin 95 setup floppy into pc it comes up with message reading floppy drive then just shows A prompt.
Any ideas apart from throwing in the skip?

You need a bootdisk with CD-ROM device drivers on. You should be able to get one from http://www.bootdisk.com

Once you've booted from the floppy, change to your CD drive:

c:\>d:

And then from there...
D:\>setup.exe

and away you go! But did you say you haven't got the Win95 serial no?

what make is the pc ?? as with the age of it there is a remote possibility that the cdrom might be running off the soundcard if it is then a standard bootdisk might not work as its a proprietary interface

all working now. Only thing is the a: (floppy) drive keeps chattering away although there is nothing in it.
Think I'll through the thing in the sea.
