Until I installed XP, I had no issues with AOL.
However, evertime the screensaver kicks in, AOL disconnects. When it disconnects, I have to reboot the PC in order for it to re-connect else it just times out.
Does anyone else have problems with AOL and XP?
Also the fecking Windows Media player is still crap, are there any reliable alternatives I can use? The normal CD player on XP is sh1te but was fine on 2000.
Do I need to see if I need new drivers?
If it is new drivers that I need then I wish to moan yet again at MS releasing a product before it is ready. Every other day IA m getting updates that need to be installed
Tis a pretty OS and a l;ittle bit quicker than 2000 pro, but it is still a pain in the ***.

I get it telling me I need to connect to run specific programs. Trouble is I'm already online when it asks for this.
Also have had to disable my screensavers to stop it hanging when they start.
Other than that - its a pain in the *ss

As far as the music side is concerned the media player was ****e on Win 2000 pro as well as XP. I used to be with BT internet, so it can't be a fault of AOL (for once )
One more week with XP to see if I can solve any of the problems then I move back to Win 2000 Pro.
I have been on the phone to the AOL helpline, who I have to say, are amazingly helpful!!!! Way better than BT (which, admittedly, isn't hard )
Willie, 'tis no good, 'cos he works for the crap company he won't have anything bad said about them
Company loyalty

Any updates that have gone through have been fine.
Every time my connection drops now, I cannot re-log on and have to reboot the PC, then XP decides it will allow me to reconnect
I have contacted AOL and they say there is no issue with the service, and quite honestly, I have had no issue with AOL up until installation of the dreaded XP.
I do not wish to try another ISP, I am very happy with the service I am getting from them atm. Their customer service is excellent and 100% better than BT.
Do I need to update any drivers? Maybe a complete fresh install of XP would solve this.
Oh and on the screensaver side, the normal XP screensaver was causing the connection to drop, so I have knocked that one on the head too. Up until XP was introduced my PC was (fairly ) reliable.

WEll i did say to you about doing teh upgrade over the Clean install.
Try the clean install, but i would be inclined to try and replicate this with another ISP in the short term.

Well, I have a vote of no confidence with Freeserve off friends, BT I would deffo not use again. What other ISP options are open to me?
In the meantime, I am backing up my files in preparation for a clean install.

I've used BT Anytime for nigh on 2 years with minimal problems. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Of course I can't comment on what it's like other than between 7am and 5:30pm.

I didn't like BT because of the 2 hour ditching method and reluctance to re-connect afterwards.
AOL rarely cuts off, I have remained connected (on Win 2k pro O/s ) for 5 days without disruption, which was a novelty
Hence, long downloads due to having to remain on a 56k modem are made less painful

AOL cuts off quite alot now. I know itf nuffin to do with the pc as i havent changed anything on it. Think it must be something to do with the phoneline, noise & stuff

If I am using AOL, it won't cut off on me.
BT have checked my line for noise etc (Ant's dad is also an ex-BT engineer for any emergencies ) all is clear.
AOL report no issues.
The thing at the moment that is annoying me the most, is having to reboot my machine after AOL disconnecting in order for it to reconnect.

Nowt wrong with them.

(I agree with your staying online for 5days solid novelty, very handy for the 56K modem posse)
