I am in discussion with some colleagues about the amount of swap space that you must configure for a Solaris system.
In says of old when you had 1/2 - 1 gig system memory, it was quite normal to configure 2.5 - 3 times the amount of swap compared to physical memory if you was using applications such as Oracle, but is that appropriate these days ???
I think that if i have a system with 16gig of memory, then 40 odd gig of swap is a bit excessive !!!
Can anyone help ?? DrEvil, krankyd..............

1.5x-2x is about right - but really depends on what the amount the db is doing, so it's not an exact science.
If it isn't a memory-sucking db machine then you can probably get away with 1x.

Just make sure its large enough to take any crash dumps unless you have a dedicated partition for dumps.
its saying you have 16G of memory is not enough to size swap. It all depends on what applications your running and there memory usage.
Best bet is just to 2x the amount of memory.
