what's the best 1st person shooter for PC?

I'm after your suggestions for the best first person shooter released for the PC in the last 6 months. I'm after a game that is good for single player, I'm not too bothered about multi-player death match or anything.
thanks

btw - Max Payne is third person (unless you use a cheat)
There's literally hundreds of FPS games out there. It will make it easier if you explain what genre suits you.....
realism? modern? teamwork? online? futuristic? authentic?

Although if u havent played it until now then you'll either get owned by outstanding players or bored cos of all the cheats. Lacks cutting edge graphics but still has the best gameplay of any game on any platform.
As for Jedi Knight II - have been playing it for last few days and dont think much of it tbh. Much preferred AVP 2/
Simon.

P1Fanatic....
Jedi - I felt the same (AVP2 scared the sh1te out of me ), but all in fairness, give it time - the story is brilliant.... just takes a while to get going

thanks guys,
the games I hae enjoyed the most on PC are
All the Doom series (OBVIOUSLY)
Dark Forces (I was still at college when this came out but loved it!)
Then to top the lot, but on a console, Golden Eye, for me, the best game I've played.
Sounds like I should plump for the Star Wars game....

If you like a touck of realism, go for one of the Delta Force series. The later releases had improved grpahics although they were never it's strong point; gameplay was.
One hit and you're dead usually, totally free to roam and massive (as in 100s of km's) playing environments, several ways to play the game....and although you aren't too bothered about online multiplayer....it's a great experience .

Since we're throwing in multi-player it seems I'll at Tribes 2 to the list. IMO one of the best on-line games, massive outdoor levels, differrent classes of player, tonnes of weapons and player drivable/flyable vehicles.
Currently playing (not in any particular order):
SoF2
Comanche4
JK2
Tribes2

Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Unreal Tournament (but only if you're into net play - single player mode sucks)
Dark Forces III - Jedi Outcast
Serious Sam (Either 1 or 2, but don't play it on the first 2 skill levels as it's too easy )
Quake III (with Team Arena)
SOF (I or II)
All good games risiding on my PC.
