Can anyone recommend any decent cd burners. I am in the states next week and would like to pick one up so I can copy DVD's and PS2 games.

I'd highly recommend Plextor (I have the 1210 IDE internal drive) - just make sure that if you get an IDE drive, it has burn-proof. I think pretty much all of the new ones do.

A03 is now replaced by the A04

Although the 104 doesn't write DVD-R any faster than the previous model (the Pioneer 103), Pioneer says there have been several improvements

1) Drive length has been shortened by 1cm

2) Both horizontal + vertical mounting is possible

3) Increased read speed for DVD-Rom - was 4X, now 6X

4) Digital Audio connector removed - Analog only

5) Front bezel / LED indicator changed

6) Buffer Underrun Free for CD-R/CD-RW

7) Lower Fan Noise - sleeve bearing instead of ball bearing

8) Shorten format time for DVD-RW format (only 2minutes)

9) Support at 4x for High Speed CDRW discs.

Thanks for the info guys. Lets face it if we are all honest, we wouldn't want a burner unless it was to copy DVD's or games.

It's got to be a HP, they are great I had a couple of them. Got a Plexor and have done in excess of 2,000 disks with it and it's still going strong (although double speed) Or a Lite On LTR **** I got one of these as well (budget one) and you can write at 24 speed amd the surprise is, you can read it again after

I always test the maximum speed, by writing a music CD then testing in the Scooby while driving, if it work then "jobs a good un!!"

Question

While on the topic of PS2/PC game back-up copies how do you do this?I've got a fairly new LG burner and use Nero.I've done a copy of a PS2 cd-rom and the PS2 says "insert playstation or playstation2 format disk".I did a copy of a PC game and it installed but wouldn't play.Does it depend on the game or is it the burning software?Any help appreciated.

Peter Stone

PS.These are back-up copies of course!

PeterStone,

On a playstation disk there are errors (for want of a better word) written at the beginning that the CD writer can't copy as it see's them as errors. I think it's part of the PS O/S.

Basically the PS will need to be chipped, so the errors (part of the O/S) are loaded on bootup. It's a simple PIC chip and is so easy to fit

Hope this helps, Cheers Phill C

PS I backup all my PS games and let the kids trash the copies

Pioneer A03 DVD Writer is what you want.(Is a DVD-R format writer)Ideal for making "backups" of PS2 games. Also is an 8x cd writer into the bargain!

Nick

P.S: Get hold of Primo DVD software as this is best for the PS2 backups. Not that I'd know or anything!!!
