Cool

I did.

I had registered for ADSL when it became available so it was installed FOC.

I also had a new second line installed.

BT billed me for £70 on the original line, which I objected to as the ADSL guy did all the work and he doesn't "work" for them. He unscrewed a box, disconnected the wires, connected the same wires to a different box (aka splitter) and screwed it back on the wall.

I had no problem paying £70 for the new second line, but in effect told them they were "avin' a tin barff" if they thought I was paying the other £70, when I had not contracted them to do anything to it.

The supervisor agreed with me and the charge was waived.

The setup you see is that BTOpenworld is just the name of the shop. They pretend not to be be BT. So when a BT engineer shows up, he is doing work contracted out by BTOpenworld, who had given FOC installation. Therefore BT, who he is not doing the job for at that point, have no basis on which to charge for any work, as you have not contracted them to do anything, though they waffle on about decomissioning Home Highway back to "normal", which they haven't have they?

BTOpen world are converting your installation to ADSL, using a "contracted" BT engineer to do it. The internal wiring of your house has never changed has it? Only the box on the wall.

It's called trying to have your cake and eat it.

Incidentally if you object to anything on your phone bill, only BT can alter it.

BTOpenworld cannot do anything to change a phone bill, although whenever you mention BTO, to a BT operator they will fire you straight off to BTO, who will pass you back again.

BUT You do need the line chaninging from digital (HH) back to analogue (PSTN) so you can have ADSL on the same pair. So there is work back at the exchange.

Still, shows what you get by having a strop on the phone

Oh yes. If I had said nothing I would be 70 quid lighter.

And how long does it take to press a few buttons at the exchange? These boys/girls being paid 500 quid an hour then.

Gollocks!
