Windows 10 removing software without permission
One of the girls in my office came to me practically in tears as her dads windows 10 laptop had installed the latest updates and it had deleted practically all his installed software including MS Office 2013.
Reading zp on this apparently windows 10 arbitrarily decides what is and isn't safe and automatically deletes it if it deems it unsafe, security risk, pirated or likely to cause issues.
Not quite sure how MS Office 2013 can be deemed a risk and deleted though.
has anyone else encountered this issue yet?

I thought it was more so if there are "dodgy" versions on your machine?
Gotta be honest, my PC is just a games machine with W10, but all the software is legit, and there's been no issues at all.

I saw warnings about this possibility only a few days after W10 was released...
Sadly, this isn't a unique story......... I won't touch W8 or W10 with a barge pole and make sure good old stable W7 is installed on any PC that I have to buy for work purposes. Last thing I need at work is the whole damn office files and program's being wiped! Fortunately we don't need the latest office software to have a happy working environment and from the horror stories I hear with what's happened to some users with W10 - I 'ain't going to recommend it either!

Yep - will be the future of Microsoft products. Windows 10 will remove products for a range of reasons as stated above. On the flip side, it will also reinstall windows components which you disable or remove, through its update channel.
Install Open Office for her - its free and has most of the commonly used functionality of MS office.
BTW - Microsoft are exerting influence over the mainstream chipset manufacturers to ensure their new products will not run legacy versions of windows. So your new laptop or PC in the future will not be capable of being downgraded to 8.1, 7, vista, XP or whatever your MS OS of choice might be.

They will have fun enforcing corporates to follow suit, how many still run Server 2003 as they don't want to change and plenty staying with 2008 R2 as 2012 just isn't enticing enough to pay out for with it's Metro interface.

Cheers TT just read the Microsoft link at least the OS's will go through to their planned EoL cycle so 8.1 will be around until 2023.
I'd like to know what they plan with server cpu architecture because Microsoft won't be able to dictate to the corporate market like they do to the consumer market. I already have seen corporates getting fed up and looking at migrating elements of Windows based infrastructure to Linux, if Microsoft push too hard more and more are going to go that way.

I can see Linux/chromebook/Android and even Mac profiting from MS's attempt to clamp down on hardware requirements
I probably will clone my windows drive, install 10 to see what it's like. If I don't like it or deletes my software, 'format' will be coming to that drive
