I'll go with dan here, soundblasters are a good gaming card and worth the money, but if you want professional music then your looking at 500+ quid for a soundcard, worth it thou

Just to agree with what's been said really mate, for games go soundblaster, as i'm sure you would have a decent graphics card so the extra resource used by the soundacrd wont bother it !!
But yeah pro tools, and yamaha for pro level kit but thats very expensive, £500 is entry level more like 2k for good'un ......

thanks guys,
I'll go for the SB Pro, the setup I'm going for is
2.4GHz P4, 512MB RAM and a Geoforce4 128MB dogs danglies graphics card, so resource should not be a problem !!
(that's if I can sell my laptop!)

There was a guy selling a Yamaha SW1000xg soundcard for stupid money a while back, I was interested in it till I looked on the website and found that it was no good for playing games...

Ive had all the soundblaster family and the turtle beach version.
The soundblasters have all been great from a performance pov, they are a little resource hungry though.
The turtle beach (i had the sonic fury) uses less resources and performs ok, sound quality is not quite as good as the creative cards (mine makes little crackling noises here and there) but it was a fraction of the price of the creative cards.
In fact having read your post properlyI would say your choice should depend on how many speakers you are running.
If you want to run 5.1 then the turtle beach all day long. If your only running 2 i would just go for the cheaper card.

ProTools Hardware!!!! should be for £xxxxxx!!
Seriously for PC, I've tried using Yamaha SW1000xg, DS2416, but for PC games, you can't really beat the SoundBlasters.....
Now, if you're talking for Hard-Disk Audio - gimme an email
Dan
As above, if I'd read the post!!! I'll still go with the SoundBlaster, but again, depends on your requirements..... D'Oh!!!
