Default Broken Iphone 5s

Ok son gave me his 5s as it wasn't getting any signal, i tried a few reboots then did a restore and also an update none worked its now stuck in a loop and won't take anything

apple rejected a swap cos there *****, slight crack on back, which i guess may caused it but its very small.

Any tricks or tips ?

or shall i go to dodgy guys who mend em and get a quote.

If the phone doesn't work Apple can't just send you away as electrical products have 6 years warranty wether they like it or not, you complaint is with the retailer and since they are the manufacturer as well they have no way out. It's law that things can not just break after the warranty and send the customer away.

6 years, really, that must be new and won't cover accidental damage which the Apple rep used to decline this repair.

Not new at all. Anything with a shorter life-span would be deemed not-fit-for-purpose under the Consumer Goods Act.

This is going to trip you up

"The six year period is not the same as a guarantee, but it does mean that even where the guarantee or warranty supplied with the product has ended, you may still have legal rights. (It’s worth noting that after six months, it’s down to the customer to prove the fault was there from the start, which could include providing an expert report)."

Worth noting that Apple replaced my motherboard when my Macbook was 4'ish years old.
