Question

Ok, I'm going for ADSL, and probably with Plus.net. I'm going for self install, and I have been looking at the Draytek Vigor2600 ADSL Router Why? well, it's got built in firewall and 4 port hub, which I like, cos it means that I could hook up my powerbook to the net when I get home if dad is on the computer.

Thing is, the 2600 has not been released yet so, what I want to know is, what other options are there for me?

Ideally want something with similar specs to the 2600, so, any ideas?

Thanks.

Markus..

I use the Alcatel st510.. I've a single port tho you can get a 4 port version.. Works very well and the only two critisims are

1. There is no log as such
2. It's very Linuxy so if your a GUI type of person its hard to crack on with in the beginning..

ps When you gonna pick up these wheels

Marcus, what are you after. If you want a router that supports a true firewall with protection against Denial of Service Attack etc, vpn support, full routing, PAT,NAT, Multi-NAT, extensive logging or all of that then don’t go for the dsl504. The dsl-504 is poor mans router. For a start the dsl-504 is only a NAT firewall with no true port forwarding The DSL-504 is cheap, but for an extra £20 you could get a router that supports everything that I just mentioned above!

I stumbled across this cool & cheap broadband site the sells draytek, dlink etc. I'll dig out the link and post it tomorrow.

be careful when a modem/router spec mention "include firewall". they can mean firewall via NAT!

definitely a software firewall is essential as well.
