I think you get what you pay for. Bose and Sonos both good, my parents have a £150 Panasonic jobbie with no bass box, its OK for there needs but personally I would have bought something with a bit more oomph

I have a LG one with a separate 300w bass box, cost about £180. I'm sure there are better ones around but for the money, the transformation and sound quality is amazing.

I wouldn't personally. You could get a pretty impressive surround sound kit for the price of the Sonos soundbar. They're silly expensive.

If you want a soundbar, i'd reccomend the Minx from Cambridge Audio. On paper it doesn't look all that clever but they've really spent the money on the design/construction.

Depends on the application. We have a Panny one in the bedroom and it is night and day better than the speakers in a flat screen tv. But in the lounge its proper 7.1 all the way.

Sonos all the way for me.

Yes the playbar is expensive but its excellent - and you're not just buying the hardware - you're buying into the (wireless) music system.

The hardware is high quality in both build and sound. App based control from phone or tablet is extremely flexible. Can set up components to work together or individualy.

Well I'd say they'd be better than the sound offered by flatscreen tv's with those shyte speakers they have.
Not going to be a patch on 5.1

I don't like that they cancel out the speakers, I'd want them to work in tandem with my TV's speakers not instead of.

Yeah but mine are really good and a complimenting sound bar would improve the film experience again

If you pair the playbar to, for example, two additional Sonos Play1s youcan get full 5.1 surround sound.

Go Listen!! Seriously, that's what i did, took my phone and some music i know well. Played each track through each sound bar, until i found one that i liked the sound of. Also look for connectivity. HDMI or Bluetooth is the latest connector of choice, early ones had either phone or optical connections. My LG has optical 3.5mm Jack & Bluetooth. (the sub is also Bluetooth, so no wires) Mart

£1,500 if you include the sub.

Its not cheap, but then quailty never is. And remember, you're not just paying for a surround system, but an entire home wide wireless music system that will stream from multiple sources, play your own music library from say Itunes or similar and more. Each component can be grouped or operate on a stand alone basis too.

Ive had a sonos playbar, sub and play:1's in a 5.1 set up since April. great system. so much so its mothballed my hifi system. the biggest selling points being sound quality in 5.1 and stereo ,ease of use for the missus and the build quality is excellent. We've expanded it out to speakers in the conservatory and main bedroom and depending on whether we move or not, may fit them in the bathroom and kitchen. it gets addictive..!
only downside for the play bar is the limited connectivity it being a single optical input so if your tv doesn't passthrough 5.1 from its optical it'll be down sampled to stereo, unless you go through an optical switch. It doesn't handle DTS, which is a bit of a deal breaker for some, although the ps3, ps4 and xbox one will now convert blurray DTS soundtracks to dolby so not a problem if you own a console. all in all, its a great system. not feature filled and no, not cheap but not ridiculous money either.

I would have said sonos but didn't know they didn't do DTS that's not very good.

I have the Yamaha sound bar and they are very very good,I also have a full setup in my basement pioneer amp 7.1 dual subs REL etc.... Yam is is where my money would go

I have a samsung one with wireless sub and its streaks ahead of the standard speakers in my Panasonic TV, it also has the Bluetooth technology so can sync with my iPhone which is a nice feature. Not too expensive either, think it was around the £180 mark but that was a few years ago now.
