My machine at the moment seems to 1)90% of the time boot to safe mode and 2)always when shutting down just hang and never actually shut down.i get the " windows is shutting down" logo bit come up but it just stays like that.
anyone know what the probs could be
cheers

if you are having 90% downtime on your PC, you are better off installing the OS from scratch. wipe the HDD nice and clean and do a clean install.
it's just like giving your scooby a nice major service.

Nick,
what have you recently changed that might have created the problem?
Do you have any anti-virus software - NAV used to cause my PC to hang on shutdown. Check your AUTOEXEC.BAT and WIN.INI (under Run=) for anything unusual (might have picked up something from the Internet!).
Look in the registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Run * for anything that shouldn't be there.
Unplug any USB devices and hubs and see if that is causing a problem.
Oh, and maybe let us know what OS, version, hardware etc.
