Default Why can't I get into the Microsoft store?

Trying to update my new computer from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.

Every time I try to enter the store, it times out or says that there's a network server error.

Is it me?

Or them?

Make sure your version of 8 is up to date first and try again

Been onto MS.

They took remote control of my computer, ran a scan, told me I have 83 viruses and asked for £65 to remove them....before I can instal 8.1.

I have a feeling I'm being scammed.

I have both Sophos and McAfee (free version of the latter), but the MS guy says they are working against each other and I can't remove McAfee.....it doesn't show up in the list of programmes for a start!

Seems I'm not the only one with THAT problem either.......

I know it can be a PITA but as the computer new can you not just do a total reformat and start again. My window 7 laptop upgraded to 8.0 then 8.1 has only the windows defender anti virus not had any issues with it.

Agreed, needs a total low level format/re-partition

Even then I heard one of the top MS security guys say you can not 100% guarantee removal of the really sophisticated root kits

Really? It looked like the official Microsoft website.

F*cked then.

Out of the window, methinks.

Been back onto them. They had control of it for 2 hrs 23 mins this morning and FINALLY made it download the upgrade!!!!

Apparently the app was blocked, but I didn't understand why.

So it's now running 8.1....lets hope it's better than 8. I'll spend some time on it this evening getting all my websites loaded into favourites and trying to find my way round it.

I've still not found out how to shut it down other than by going into "settings".

There should be a tutorial somewhere, but the one I found wasn't up to much.

If you have 8.1 then the first thing you notice that the Start menu is back (well kind of ) Little white windows logo bottom left.

Want a quick way to shut down, sleep, restart ?

Simply right click on it and you get the menu options

Thanks.
Just spent ten minutes e-mailing myself all the websites I want to install in Favourites, so will spend some time trying to find my way round the new puter now.

A nephew tells me there is ANOTHER big revision of 8 due out any time.
