Afternoon all
Our IT guys have installed an over-zealous firewall that is blocking more and more sites every day. Can't even access Yahoo mail or Easyjet. Was no problem as I just used an anonymous web-proxy - until 'proxy' must have been added to the filter.
Anyone know of a web proxy that works (ideally with CGI) that doesn't have the word 'proxy' in the URL?

In I.E.
Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab -> LAN Settings
Add the IP address and port as the proxy (assuming theres nothing there all ready - which there may well be for soem corpprates).
That IP address is actually a Netapp Webcache somewhere running a fairly old version of Netapp code.

When you have Internet explorer open, click tools menu and then options.
Click the connections tab, then click the LAN Settings button at the bottom.
Tick "USe a proxy server"
Put the ip address in the "address box" and the port in the "port box".
This then means all your web surfing is anonymous Click OK, and give it a try.
Try it and give me a shout. there's a list of alternate ip addresses at the url i posted above.

your on about sites like www.anonymizer.com
question : cant you just access the site by ip address?
e.g. to get to yahoo mail you usually have to put in your browser:
http://mail.yahoo.com
have you tried putting:
http://64.58.76.98
??

Thanks guys,
I'm already running through our corporate proxy on port 80, so not sure if I can use another.
The IP address works for that page, but is blocked if I use the domain name. Unfortunately I can't see how to navigate from that page by without getting blocked again as the links not simply IP addresses.
How does one find out the IP address for a given domain name?

If you're behind a firewall, setting your browser to use another proxy may not work. If your only web access is via a corporate proxy then you have no choice but to use it, that's the whole idea. If you don't go via a corporate proxy then there's probably no reason to use a proxy at all, unless you want to take advantage of its caching abilities. Either way a simple packet sniffer will show up everything you're doing and sites you're looking at. Be wary of logging in to your hotmail/yahoo/whatever email accounts via one of these external proxies too, as they're great ways of stealing peoples usernames & passwords. You can use IP addresses to get to webservers, but if they're using name based virtual hosts then you may not get the results you're after.

If your using a proxy already to access the net, then you're knackered. You can't access the external proxy from your PC without going through your companies proxy first, and that's where the blocking software will reside.
Sorry.
Sorry.

David,
It was me, but I don't think I'll be giving that info out in public again because it can be misconstrued Wont help if all you have is web access though, you still need another "way out" than a proxy.

Sure, but they're not secure by any means, and *still* go via your proxy, and all that network traffic will be noticed. Personally I wouldn't touch them and stick with vtund, but that's me

Steve...
Im not doing it for evil puposes... I work in IT support and Our Networks Team want to know if I can still get out... its like a little chalenge.... Am I right in assuming you could still use SSL then they wouldnt be able to see / intercept the traffic?? Or could you do IP/Sec via a Proxy..

The networkers can see everything, regardless as to what you're doing. If you use some encryption they wont be able to see the content - but they can still see the traffic. If all you're worried about is whether you can get "full" access via the web proxy then you don't need to worry about encryption.

steve they will be able to see you tunneling out ssl over the http proxy to your pc@home - but they wont be able to tell the actual data or actual destination (i.e. if you visited hotmail). Therefore what can they do about it? - block your pc@home on the proxy.
