Anyone got Windows 8.1 Update 1 yet?
I see that this update is launched today - Microsofts effort to address those who have a mouse and keyboard having been plagued by the OS from hell for ages now.
Anyone received their update yet? I haven't ... it may just save me from throwing this laptop through the damned window (pun intended)

Startisback is the best thing to ever happen to Windows 8. With that 3rd party app Windows 8 is great. Microsoft can release whatever updates they like but it won't change users perception unless they give back the full start menu. Hence Startisback is the only way to go with Windows 8.

I think that they are going to give the start back in the next update.
This one gives the option to start in desktop mode I think?
I'm not good at all this - I just HATE windows 8 with a vengence

Startisback has given back the full start menu and boot to desktop since it was released shortly after Windows 8 became everyone's hated OS. My Windows 8.1 looks and works just like Windows 7 with the advantage of Windows 8 better resource usage. It's a great OS if you have the full start menu and boot to desktop available.

I like windons 8.1, people hate change
And I am a bit of a Luddite when it come to techy stuff - but I think It's ok
As I point out on computer section, wait until people see office 2013

I have this wretched Windows 8.1. First disaster was when it rejected my printer. I had to knock on another org's office to get my report form printed, which was very, very important for the report needing person. I ended up buying a new printer. Then my USB mouse also went on a p7ss with bleddy 8.1, so I had to spend on a new mouse as well. I haven't had this new update yet, but I do hope it sorts all these things out. I want my old printer to work again with my laptop. I've got a few unpacked expensive cartridges for it sitting redundant that I'd rather consume than give away to some other losers.

I don't mind change .... but I HATE that those stupid things swing in from the right everytime I happen to swipe the mouse from the right of the mouse area - I HATE IT!
How do I power up to desktop?
Another thing - when I go to music or a picture ...... I have to hit the windows button to get back to where I was ... I HATE IT!

mouse. 6 quid from Tesco. No more swipe to bring unwanted crap from right side.
To get rid of music or pic, I right-click> bottom bar comes up> options > close, I think. On iPhone right now, so only going by my memory.

Right click on the task bar at the bottom of your desktop, click on properties and then select the navigation tab. In there is a tick box to boot to desktop (1st tick box under start screen).
