Starter Kit
Hi, as a total noob with a sponge, fairy liquid & a bucket of water can anyone recommend a starter kit so I don't wreck the paintwork/alloys on my new scooby.
I see halfords have a 3 for 2 on now. Is this a reasonable place to start.

Thanks for the suggestions 
The AG HD wax looks expensive, but has good reviews.
Any other suggestions? I'm literally starting from scratch, and I'm sure there must be others interested in keeping their pride & joy in tip top condition. As a noob, a sticky in this section about car care with tips and buying suggestions would have been really useful

Hi mate. As above the wash mit etc are a must. I use microfiber drying towels rather than a shami leather. My choice of wax is collinite http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/co.../prod_207.html
This stuff really is amazing, I've used hd wax before and imho the collinite is much better, harder and longer lasting, better finish and only £16 a tub.

AG HD wax is not expensive, you can spend thousands on a wax. Mental I know but true.
The HD is supposed to be very good for the price, funnily enough I was reading about it earlier.
Anyway, a good quality wool wash mit is a must. for the rest of the stuff its worth having a look on some of the well known websites. Clean your car, Polished Bliss, Ultimate Finish and work out what your budget is.
I used Polished Bliss because they are local but their website is excellent and gives you great how tos and honest reviews on the products.

Looks like a not bad selection to me. I use bilbery wheel cleaner its good stuff.
Other thing I would suggest at some point is something to remove contamination from paint. Before I do a proper job I usually use tradis, iron x and claybar the car. But thats probably the next level up.

As already mentioned, look on the Polished Bliss website, they have great step by step guides to cleaning your car. Everything from washing to machine polishing.

Muc-Off 306 Microfibre Wash Mitt - 3.00 bit too smooth and really useful it's a clean wash
Meguiars Lambswool Mitt - 9.95 that's a decent bit of quality though !!

If you have a bit extra buy them with grit guards £30 a pair
Will last for years good investment
As you have gone the AG route which is ok for a beginner get some EGP extra gloss protection to spray on after wax to finish the job off for a tenner
AG engine and motor cleaner £15 for engine bay
AG plastics and rubber £15 is worth it too for the plastics in the engine bay
Halfrauds 2/3 offer is best for these products
Glass cleaner £9 will last for years but you must get a proper glass cleaning cloth ,that's the secret of a clean glass area
Proper drying towel chemical guys miracle £15 or similar also medium waffle towel £15 will last you for years
Good plastic box to keep everything in
Detailing pastry brushes to get small bits of polish and grime out
Autosol metal polish £5
Old credit card free !! To get dirt out under trim
Cotton buds free from misses
Normally £200 to get you started on a petrol heads greatest obsession although many spend
Hundreds and thousands
But never tell the misses
