The whole of nearside was keyed today from boot to front wing. will it polish out????? or do i need a respray?

Same thing happened to me. You can T-cut/polish it out if it's not too deep. Otherwise it's a respray.

Best approach is to try to polish it out and go from there. I took mine to my local body shop and he tried to polish out for me for free. Just be careful not to go too far.

If you can feel the scratch with your figure nail then it’s too deep to fully remove, polishing will round off the edge making it less visible.

I'll certainly try to get it out without the use of paint for free yes
ie compound and DA machine[detail work]
If it needs painting then its a different matter of course.

looks like it will need touching up then flatting/polishing , iv recently done a key scratch on my sti

Cheers for the offer mate but i'm a distance away in Essex. I will try to polish it myself but I think they may be too deep as I can feel them with my fingernail

if you are prepared to have a go yourself i would buy a touch up paint then clean/apply a layer to the scratch then allow to dry for atleast 24hrs then flat/polish it , there is a good how to on detailingworld , i always tend to buy the touch up paint that is single stage so has a shine inhancer built in rather than having to touch up with the base colour then also with clearcoat

^ I had a similar scratch on my Ford Cougar back in the day. I didnt have a touch up pen but I had some spare Halfords spray. Cleaned the scratch and sprayed. It made a terrible mess of the door but when I polished it back with a rubbing compound it took it back to the original paint but left the paint in the scratch as it flattened out. The end result was almost perfect. You could see it if you got down on your knees and looked down the car but for a £8 fix it was superb. I soon forgot about it and when it came to selling it, it wasn't even mentioned by me or the purchaser.

Not really. The stains did come out pretty well when I used a rubbing compound but the scratches are not budging. Funnily enough I tried doing the same as what I suggested in post 12 with Upol lacquer but it wasnt as effective.

you could try that dr colour magic thing, I used it on my porsche for a scratch and it worked a treat

+1 again. Could be worth trying this after having a go at polishing. Would be worth the £40 to give it a try seeing as painting it would cost a few hundred. You've always got a touch up then for stone chips to the bumper etc.

Thanks for offers lads but had to give it in at the body shop because the scratches were too deep tried my luck polishing but to no avail.
