Exclamation Stains on polished brake disc bells!!

Bit of a funny one this, but I have a set of new Godspeed brakes discs with the seperate bells which are a polished aluminium type finish....now me being a fussy bugger i decided to keep these looking nice and shiney and proceeded to give them a bit of a clean with some Meguiars wheel Brightener, give it a bit of a brush with a wheel brush and rinsed clean....immediately i noticed the complet shine bell of the disc covered in dark stains ....Ive tried everything to shift these but no joy, it looks terrible and has left the shiney bell part of the brake disc looking a bit crap now.

Has anyone any ideas what would shift these stains or bring the surface up again?

Ive tried autosol, PS12 cleaner, thinners, WD40, but no joy....

Any ideas, has the wheel brightener destroyed the surface or what??

Cheers

wheel acid can remove braking component coverings with ease.

i remember trying some wheel acid on a new pug 406 coupe when they first came out and it removed the gold coating on the callipers!

your brakes will need recovered, probably best to paint them IMO

I would tend to agree; Wheel Brightener is an aggressive bugger, and chances are the stains won't come out. Several friends of mine have killed anodised and aluminium components with it before, and once the surface is compromised there is usually no way back. You could maybe try an intensive two stage process with the Blackfire metal polish system and a suitable tool (Dremel would be ideal), but I strongly suspect even this would not restore them to A1 condition. Painting them may be the only way forward.

To add: cleaning of sensitive parts like this is best done with a citrus based mild cleanser like P21S Total Auto Wash. This will offer enough cut to clean without causing damage. Too late now I appreciate, but worth noting anyway.
