Subaru Impreza SW - winter preparation
Hello,
At last I decided to prepare the car for the winter (although it is still 20C outside) and play with my new Gilmour foam gun
The procedure followed was the following:
Day 1:
- Rinse the car with hose
- Foam using Gilmour foam gun with a mixture of Super snow foam, Meguiars shampoo and water at a ratio 1:5. Let dwell for 5-10 minutes.
- Rinse
- Wash using two bucket method and foaming gun. Rinse
- Clay using sonus green clay
- Rinse using hose by hand
- Dry with waffle towel and Meguiars Last Touch
- Mask unpainted plastic trim
- Apply SRP
- Apply EGP
Some pictures from the day:
You can see the flake popping after aplying SRP
Day 2:
- Wash using two bucket method
- Dry with waffle towel and Meguiars Last Touch
- Apply 2 layers of Natty's paste blue
This time buffing the wax was much easier compared to last time as I used very thin layers of wax. I seem to be using huge quantities of Meguiars Last Touch, I consumed almost 1/3 of the 5lt bottle! Is there a cheaper way?
Day 2 pictures:
I still need to take the wheels off to wash the inside of the rim, seal them and clean the wheel arches. I am lazy though as I have no hydraulic jack here. Saying that, it probably takes more time trying to wash the inside of the rim without removing it from the vehicle.
Any comments/tips welcome
Thanks for looking.

Switch your wax choice to Blackfire Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax; it will give you heaps more wetness, and the glow your are looking for (and the look of the flake will be fully preserved).

The problem in this case is that the Blackfire wax is a blended product, having both natural wax content as well as sealant polymers... so putting it over a pure natural wax is a no-no, as technically you are trapping in a wax layer under a sealant, if you get my drift. Better to live with the Natty's for now, then next time you doa monster session including the clay and AG polishing steps, then switch to the Blackfire wax after the AG twins.

Porter Cable (PC) 7424 Dual Action Polisher - up until recently the tool of choice for detailing enthusiasts in the UK, but now surpassed by the more powerful Ultimate Detailing Machine (UDM) and more than likely also the Meguiars Dual Action Machine Polisher when it soon hits the shelves.
