Hi all, i need some help with a paint issue i have.

I gave the car the quick once over this morning before coming to work and whilst washing i noticed that on the back bumper i had a milky kind of residue that was left in / on the paint.

The car colour is Silver (01G) and it appears that it has come from the application of some sort of cleaner which has damged or effected the paint. . .possibly from a car park cleaner??

Only had the car about a month or so, so this why i have only just noticed the blemish.
SO, any ideas what has caused this? and or how to remove it?
I was thinking a Clay Bar treatment would possibly work??

Any help would be appreciated!

I have a few probs in getting pics up, i'm at work, with no camera and i haven't got a photo bucket account yet either. (*edit* got photobucket sorted)

Plus it looks as though it would be hard to capture in a picture but i will try later, hopfully before it gets dark!

could be a number of things. pics will help to be able to give you an idea of what it is or what has caused it.

instead of taking the pics all straight on, try to get a couple at side angles.

 

Ok mate, i'm hoping to get these done tonight as i got home late yesterday and the light was bad.

Hopefully i can capture it, like you said, from a few different angles to give a good idea of the problem.

As above, pics will help, and if you can get some under artifical lighting too that would help - petrol stations at night are ideal, as the lighting always shows up every little defect in paint.

 

Right, after 2 months i've finally got round to getting these pictures up for you all to see!
I managed to get these last week, so the milky patches still exist and to be honest they look worse than ever!

Can anyone tell me what is the cause of this and how to get rid of it??







I should also say that this is only on the back bumper too from what i can see.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

to me it looks like something has been applied and it has etched the paint surface or just has simpley bonded on and normal washing will not remove. what does it feel like to the touch?

i would start by trying a mild claybar, the megs quick detail kit is very good. if you're not sure on how to clay bar say and we'll run through it with you.

if this doesn't work i'd be tempted to try a fine polish on the white side of a german applicator pad and then move up in aggressiveness and then back down again.

i've certainly not seen this before.

 

To touch, the blemish feels no different to the rest of car.

mmm, may just come off with claying. have you used a clay bar before? you could always try a citrus degreaser. this should be safe enough and shouldn't react. may be worth checking with pb first though.

 

Yeah, i'll give the clay bar treatment a go maybe this afternoon (haven't ever used this before) and then see what the outcome is!

Hopefully PB will be on some to have a look and he may shed some more light on what the hell it is!

Try an alcohol wipe on it if the clay bar doesn't work, then if it's still there, try a fine polish as mentioned previously.

 

Try a small area of super resin polish by Autoglym and see if any of the residue comes off on the rag or there is a noticeable difference in the paint, if it does you know its surface residue and can be removed easily.

 

not an idea to polish before clay baring. any bonded on contaminents will be picked up in the cloth / applicatora and swirled around the paintwork. you've then got to spend more time polishing to get the marks out that you've just put in. agreed though clay bar and then try the polish.

 

I presumed he had done the clay route.
Im not talking about doing the whole car Just a 10mm section as a test.
I find AutoGlyms natural cutting agent amazing for stubborn areas.

 

i'd still only polish after claying even a small test section. i'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to detailing.

srp is good for use by hand. but can leave a lot of residue which is a pain but it is good stuff. have you tried menzerna intensive polish? gives better results than the srp. as it's oil based doesn't give so much dusty residue.

what do you think it is? only other thing i could think of was that there's a problem with the lacquer?

 

Ok, i've had a go with quick clay by Meguirs and that hasn't seemed to solve the problem from what i can see.

I may try to have another go as i'm still in the process of claying the rest of the car.

I may just jack it in and get it resprayed. I managed to scuff the front bumper yesterday in the works car park, so i'll be getting that sprayed in Jan and i may just get them to do the back bumper for the extra cost and it would avoid a lot of effort trying to work out the blemish i guess.
