Default tiny red spots.

When I recieved the car new it had tiny red spots on the paint work and on the window rubbers etc. Most of bonet, roof and doors are fine as were covered with film during transportation.

I noticed this before a accepted the car and they took it back and polished it. It came back some hours later and it looked a lot better although i could still see some spots. Now I'm noticing a lot more spots on the wing mirrors and other areas.

The spots apparently came from a ship that was being painted in the dock.

What is the best way for me to remove them? Would claying help? can this also be used on the door seals? and the black seperator between the front and rear doors?

cheers

Claybar for the paintwork will do the trick but for seals etc I would just use an APC

Claying is the way to go for sure for removing overspray, just read up on how to do it safely first and you'll be fine. A good starter clay is Meguiars Quik Clay, as it's mild and safe, but works well enough.

I would ask the dealership to pay for a professional detail.

I think you are required to give the dealership two chances to rectify any faults before you can take it elsewhere, but I'd go along with that

There's no way you should be doing it yourself, you already have an admission that the car was damaged in transit

tbh i wouldn't trust any dealership who will probably let work experience lads wash the car the workshop 'sponge', i would clay it myself, followed by a decent detail.

Arrange it with them for you to choose the detailer and they can pick up the tab. Expect them to spit chips though.

You're probably going to need to rely on the pressure washer for trims, as APC's won't have enough chemical action to soften/dissolve paint. See this link for a similar problem we dealt with on a Leon...

Risky, might stain the trims. Hmm, tough one; Clark's just offered that he's clayed hard plastic trims gently before to remove paint flecks. However, this won't work on more rubbery trims. Methylated spirit might be a safer bet that white spirit, but don't take that as granted. Seeing as the car is new, it may be worth taking this up with the dealer - a strong bodyshop solvent might be the way to go instead? I'd take advice from my bodyshop if we had one in through the door and pressure washing/claying didn't work on this type of problem. What a pain in the bum!

Have you tried some Xenit citrus degreaser on the trim and failing that a magic eraser? Both of these products have removed marks from trim safely and easily for me.

Interesting tips, many thanks, have found a UK supplier for the latter, and lots of web reviews that are extremely positive...

The eraser works a treat on removing product residue from trim. Don't reccommend it's use on paint though, it can mark.
