New car so i want to give it a good clean and polish
Right Guys,
I should, all being well, pick up my new Scooby at the weekend. Now although it'll be new to me it's a 1993 classic in Red. I normally give my cars a good clean and polish when I first get them and I then find it easier to maintain.
Over the last couple of years or so I've progressed up from a bucket of water with washing up liquid and sponge, to Autoglym car shampoo and lambs wool mitt, followed by meguiars or poorboys clay bar, and meguiars 3 step cut, polish and wax process.
Now, this time I want to give this car a real going over. The paint's not awful (otherwise I wouldn't have bought it), but it's not great. There's swirl marks on pretty much every panel, but then again the car is 14 years old! So what am I going to need to get it all bufty?
I want to do the engine bay too. Last one I done, I used Gunk aerosol and sealed it with Autoglym vinyl and rubber care.
I have a car buffer but it's nothing like the "mop" type. Gives pretty much the same results as polishing by hand, just saves a lot of energy.
Cheers,
Matt.

I would use the likes of Menzerna Intensive Polish with the polishing side of a German Applicator Pad, this breaks down nice and easy when used by hand or machine and leaves a great finish ready for sealing/waxing etc etc..
It has a decent amount of cut and will reduce your swirls by a fair amount, it wont get rid of them all but the improvement will be very noticeable!
As for the engine, if you find gunk works then use it. We tend to use Meguiars APC or Super/safe de-greaser
Also make sure you use the two bucket method with your lambswool mitt and use a waffle weave towel for drying
