2-3 initial coats of Poorboys Wheel Sealant, then top up every 4-6 weeks thereafter; try to avoid wheel cleaners, as they will likely strip the protection. Instead, use a pressure washer and normal suds; the sealant layers will prevent brake dust from bonding, making it easy to blast/wash off.

Will this also help on the back side of the rims where the surface is not as smooth or is it best to put a coat of lacquer on the back side first. Thanks

It will help, but the more protection you can add (whether sealant or wax) the better, so no harm in putting on a sealant first.

Why would new wheels need polishing? Just sealant should be good (uneless using something like JEFFS Werkstatt Prime Strong as a basecoat).

When you say front and back, are you not talking about wheels any more? If not, pop the question in another thread to keep this one on topic

Oh I see - sorry, I wasn't being pedantic (for a change).

Have you read PB's advice section on wheels? I don't think polishes are recommended for alloys. For regular general cleaning you can use a gentle shampoo (same as on your car), or Menzerna Gel (7.5 Wheel & Tyre Cleaner) for slightly more stubborn grime. If your wheels have a lot of stubborn brake dust on, you could use something acidic like Meguiars Wheel Brightener, but that shouldn't be used regularly, as it would damage the wheels. All of those can be used with a microfibre wash mitt.

Then you can seal the front and back with something like Poorboy's Wheel Sealant (couple of coats once a month).
