Default Washing a new car for the first time

Just pucked up girlfriends new motor last week and I its now got loads of motorway general grime on it.
The supplier dealer cleaned it really well for collection with no swirl marks whatsoever in the paint.
Any tips on how to clean it and leave no visible marks atall.

I have cleaned a couple of new cars in the past, they look great in the day after you have cleaned them, but the at night when you look closely at the finish you can see tiny swirl marks in the reflection of street lights etc

This is my usual procedure- 1. hose car down
2. sponge wash with auto glym car shampoo
3. Rinse with hose
4. Wipe down with autoglym synthetic leather

Any tips cheers
Warren

rinse it first and wash off the thick (brush on hose?)
then wash it with proper car shampoo (no nasty detergents and salts)
but rinse off EACH panel as you clean it
then dry the car - DONT let it air dry (so DONt do it if its reet sunny)
then polish it with a good quality polish
..the important stuff is the rinsing and the drying to prevent the staining you often see

Rather than use a sponge get a lambswool mitt, the reason being is that with a sponge any grit stays at the surface with a lambswool mitt it will go into the fibres. With that in mind have a second bucket of clean water to rinse the mitt out after each panel. Depending how dirty my car is I will either rinse with a hose or visit the local jetwash for the basic shampoo and rinse to get rid of the major crap. Then you can give it a good polish and wax, have a look through Polished Bliss's website for guides and products. Unless on holiday or very busy the turn round on delivery is a couple of days. Get some pictures posted once done (either tape over number plates or use a picture editor to erase the plate). Enjoy Steve

Have a read of this for wash methods...

Car Care Advice - How to wash and dry your car safely and effectively

no need to polish it more than 2-3 times a year, however, applying pure protection (wax or sealant) needs to be done more often, i.e. every 1-3 months. Here's a guide to choosing protection...
