Thumbs up September Show n Shine Winners

Congratulations to Chris Hudson of Great Yarmouth for winning our September show n shine. Chris has always kept very clean looking cars (his last Seat Ibiza was stunning), but when he picked up this Skoda Fabia vRS in June he was disappointed upon returning home to find a multitude of defects in the paint when it was viewed in direct sunlight. By reading up on the Detailing World forum and seeking out our advice, Chris knew that correcting the hard Skoda paint was going to require the use of a machine, so he duly purchased a Porter Cable 7424 dual action polisher, plus a selection of polishes by Menzerna and Blackfire. He started out by washing the exterior surfaces thoroughly with Meguiars NXT Shampoo using the two bucket method, and then clayed the paint to remove any bonded surface contaminants such as tar spots and baked on insect remains. He then began the process of correction using Menzerna Power Gloss and 4” spot pads to remove the worst of the swirl marks and scratches, and followed up with Menzerna Intensive Polish and finally Final Polish II using light cut and polishing pads respectively to complete the defect removal stage. This sounds relatively straight forward, but took some considerable time. With the paint now in excellent condition, Chris applied Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish to further enhance the gloss, before finally sealing the finish with Blackfire Wet Diamond. All of the residues were buffed off using appropriate Poorboy’s microfibre towels. The finishing touches were to dress the tyres with a coat of Meguiars Endurance Gel, clean the windows and polish the exhaust tip with Autosol. The results are fantastic! A rich, glossy, defect-free finish with superb clarity and depth. In Chris’s own words, “Well I cant say it was easy, but boy was it a labour of love, this was done over quite a few days off, I really take my hat to you guys that turn out work like this in the same day because this really was slow going !”

Congratulations also to this month’s runner’s up. Colin Guest’s work on an Audi TT looked great to us, as did Steve Jameson’s work on his Honda Civic – just check out the reflectivity of his bonnet! Patrick Dorrian of the Seat Car Club finally managed to get the flake on his platinum grey Leon Cupra to pop with the aid of the Werkstatt twins, although commented that the effort left him knackered! Finally, Tom Pinney’s prep work on his Rover for TRAX was very thorough, and he should be proud that his car was one of only a small percentage that were presented perfectly on the day.

Well done everyone that entered, we’re looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us this month.
