Thumbs up May Show n Shine Winner

Congratulations to Tom Jamson of Nottingham for winning our May show n shine. Tom has done a great job tackling the swirls and minor scratches on his brother-in-law’s Porsche Carerra. A relative novice to machine polishing, Tom felt he needed some more practice before tackling his own car! The first step in the process was to wash the car thoroughly with Sonax shampoo and a wash mitt, treating insect smeared areas with 1Z Insect Pre-Cleaner first. Tom then clayed the bodywork using Sonus Fine Green Clay and Clearkote Quikshine, and was amazed by the amount of dirt it lifted from the paint. Tom then re-washed the car using the same method as above and dried everything off with a waffle weave towel. Tom then taped off all of the trims using 3M masking tape and set to work with his Porter Cable 7424 dual action machine polisher. Having heard that Porsche paint is hard, Tom set to work with Menzerna Intensive Polish, using Lake Country orange light cut spot pads. Tom worked small areas at a time, making four passes using heavy pressure, and managed to cover the whole car in around four hours. The results on the swirls and light scratches were very good, although a number of deeper scratches were not completely removed. Tom then went over the bodywork again with Meguiars #81 using Lake Country white polishing spot pads, before applying two coats of Blackfire All Finish paint Protection, 24 hours apart. Finally, the windows were cleaned with Meguiars NXT Glass Cleaner, the trims dressed with Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care, the wheels protected with Klasse All In One and 1Z Glanz Wax, and the exhaust cleaned with Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh and wire wool. In total, Tom spent around 10-15 hours on the car over 3 days, and didn't touch the inside apart from cleaning the windows. He reports that his arms were about dropping off after this marathon session – we’re sure you will agree that the results were worth it!

We had a whole raft of excellent entries in the end for May, and picking a runner up proved to be impossible. So, instead, here is a selection of the best entries, some superb work on show, so well done everyone!

One final thing to note for future months – please try to send in before, during and after pictures plus a description of what you did, and your order number. We are receiving a lot of final result pictures, but few process pictures and descriptions. Have a look at the previous winners in the show n shine section on the site for ideas and examples. Cheers!
