TXT spk
I've noticed there are a sizeable number (albeit a minority) of scoobynet users who use this when posting on scoobynet. Not only is it harder to read than the language we all have in common it's also annoying, childish and rather pathetic in my opinion. While this isn't an English class I think it reflects badly on any public forum and makes the place look extremely downmarket.
Plenty of other forums I'm a member of have a 'no text speak' policy so I'd like you to consider including one in the terms and conditions and having a sticky at the top of every forum.
A no hassle way of policing it would be to add an extra infract option. I'm not suggesting we punish people who have had little education or claim to have 'dyslexia', just those wilfully using text speak.
Just to give you an idea of how rubbish this method of communication is I've translated this into retardese.

How has NACRO ended up being banned, just a quick look at his profile shows a 2 point infraction for the post on this thread and all his others bar one (a 1 point one) have all either been reversed or expired, thought you needed 5 points for a ban ?
It does annoy me seeing txt spk, but I tend to ignore those posts as I cant be bothered to spend time to try and decipher them into legible english
However I dont really see NACRO's post as abusive

I thought you could if it resulted in a user getting banned and not able to request an investigation themselves (without resorting to an alias that is )

Can't see how the OP has a justified infraction also .... It mentions :-
TXT spk, 09 April 2008, 15:49, 23 April 2008 15:49, 2 points, Abusive / Offensive Post
How is the post abusive/offensive ?
Also (as I understand it), the 2 point infractions come from Moderators/Admin ?

+1 agreed
or you can post your own, and get the "you cant have it all your own way because you dished some out yourself" which has got **** all to do with the fact that mine were justified (and not reversed) and the muppets who infracted me were unjustified (and were reversed) i also seamed to pick up a few more from webby that he thought justified in the same thread
basically, = to many infractions are getting reported and not enough man hours in the day to sort them all IMO

Any chance of the thoughts of those that run the website now I'm able to comment again?
I think it would be great if there was an option to discourage 'txt spk'.

My personaly view is that it isn't an issue.
I personally don't use text speak, and jokingly make fun of those who do. But it doesn't keep me awake, and certainly doesn't bother me enough to cause a fuss over.
As we're not even close to inundated with complaints about it, I don't see why we should enforce individual views on people and insist they type words out in full.
I really don't see what big problem can be caused by it.
