Default Notice doesn't disappear

I have voted on the 'The Big ScoobyNet Opinion Poll' and have clicked the 'X' to remove the notice.

However it keeps appearing on every different forum section I enter and is still there when I re-load scoobynet itself??

That's really weird. Thanks a lot for pointing this out, I'll try to find out what caused it.

I assume its gone now?

Its gone now.

Was strange, I must have clicked the 'X' at least 5 different times.

OK. thanks michaelro and Wurzel

I'll look into this right now as its baffling me.

Are you saying that you have clicked the X but nothing happens? If anything happens at all, please tell me exactly what.

nope, if you click the x it does go away but when you go to another page or reload the same page it comes back again.

that is totally weird.

I have absolutely no idea how that could be.

It would be ideal if either of you are able to establish an unusual similarity between your two setups. Maybe around javascript settings or similar.

Have either of you entered any prize draws? If so, was there any problem with you joining those?

If I click the x it goes away. However, when I return to the main page it reappear. All it takes from there is to refresh the page and it goes permanently.

Your issue is purely your browser cache by the sounds of it.

I rated the post and it stayed as OK so no idea if it works or not.

as for comps I entered the one for the XML dash thingy and worked fine

Job vacancy still there though.

Normally these things work for me when I click the x and I have not changed anything on my settings.

I don't post rate very often, but it has worked for me in the past.
When I tried to rate your post it didn't look like it worked

The notices used to disappear for me and I have entered a draw before.

Happened for me at work and is still the same at home.

Running IE7 with Java 2 at work and Firefox with Java 6 at home.

This is really odd.

Will take another look in the morning. Thank you for info so far, anything else you can work out would be great.

Both your post ratings worked btw.

Cheers

Same issue here - both at home and at work. Click on the + to get rid of the advert but it comes back again.

OK Guys

We're at that stage again where search is causing these problems.

We are going to run a very large update to the servers which we have been researching for over a year now. It is hoped that this will greatly improve this issue.

The update will start at 14:00 today.

Thanks for looking into this issue. I was hoping the update would sort it, but it hasn't. For me I now have two notices that won't disappear. The one about the update, and the one about the job.

If I click on the cross for the job, it disappears for a second and then comes straight back.

If I click on the cross for the site update, it disappears and stays gone until I reload the page or navigate to a new one.

I was using tabbed browsing when I first attempted to click a cross. I had 3 tabs, the main forum window, nsr and computing. The crosses were clicked in the main forum window. Obviously I did not expect it to take effect for the other two tabs until I loaded new pages.

Perhaps tabbed browsing has something to do with this? Maybe it gets confused between the tabs, and once confused it stays confused. I've no idea if this would make a difference, but extra info may help you...

I should have mentioned that I am using the latest version of firefox.

I just cleared my cache totally, then reloaded the website in only one tab. I then click the cross on the job advert, which disappeard for about two seconds and then instantly came back (no refresh).

Next I clicked the cross on the site update. That message went until I loaded a new page. When the new page was loaded both notices are present again.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

OK.. Thank goodness, I have actually been able to reproduce this.

So please bear with me, and we should be able to sort this asap.

Just got some serious work we're doing right now to try to solve some stability issues, so please accept my apologies if this doesn't happen in the next day or two. it WILL be sorted.
