If I click on page 2, 3 etc on a thread I get taken back to page 1 again

It's not sorted yet, not for me anyway. It's not worked for a couple of months. I have tried the cookie clearing method as outlined on another thread.

 

Rather oddly I can get to page 2 of the Engine 1 article but no further, page one with all the others.

It's a pity as I wanted to read about your induction kit tests.

Could you please describe the EXACT procedure you are trying in order to solve the problem? As you will be the very first that this has happened to.

 

Well usually I get onto the site from my favourites side bar which logs me in automatically. I then go to articles then specc. I have the choice of the four and I can get the front page of all and the second page of engines 1. There is no change if I navigage in directly from the web address (thereby not logging in) or if I do what was recommended on the other thread. If I click on the small navigation arrows or the page numbers (incl. Last) I will not progress further than already mentioned. Win XP and IE7 if that helps.

What I mean is. In terms of the procedure outlined in the previous thread. Could you please tell me exactly what steps you are following.

Please try doing exactly this procedure.

1) Close all browsers, MSN, outlook, and anything else that may use an internet explorer API.

2) click this link Subaru forum - ScoobyNet

3) click "log out" in the navigation bar near the top of the page on the right hand side.

4) Click "OK" when prompted, then let the page refresh. You should now be logged out.

5) To check you are logged out, click https://www.scoobynet.com/usercp.php which should give you a "no permission" page asking for your username and password. Do not enter them. You should also see "register free" in the grey bar at the top of the page near the main menu.

6) Use the main menu to go to the article in question, and click the second page.. then the third. This should allow you to browse freely.

7) You should now be able to log back in and use the articles freely.

If this does not work.. next try this..

1) close all browser windows apart from one.

2) use your browser's options to clear all cookies.

3) close your browser.

4) reopen your browser and start from step 5 above.

Thought I'd chime in on this, as I've been trying to get the article thing to switch pages.

I've tried Safari 2 and Firefox 2 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 and also Safari 3 on a newer version of the Mac OS and they all have an issue with not being able to switch to any other page of, for example, the Spec C article when you are logged into the forum. If you are logged out then it does not seem to be an issue.

I've tried this on a completely clean OS install, so there were no cookies at all, and I still saw the problem. I've also tried the suggestions you mention above and still see the issue in the aforementioned browsers.

Not sure if the following will help or not, but when I click the next page in the Spec C article, I see, very briefly the url change to:

then it quickly changes to:

then again, very quickly changes back to:

So it seems as though it tries to load the page I requested but cannot, for some reason.

Also, looking at my cookies, I have entries for:

.scoobynet.com
bbs.scoobynet.com
.bbs.scoobynet.com

I have a screenshot of the cookie info if you want to have a look at the content of these items.

I'm not an expert on cookies but I would have though that they should all come from the same location/domain, eg; bbs.scoobynet.com

It does appear to be something to do with being logged in though, as when logged out it functions correctly, and I do not have an issue changing pages in forum threads, it's just the articles.

 

OK it looks like the problem has developed then.. as this procedure worked for everyone until now.

The problem is related to your settings for how many posts you show per page.

I will do some further investigation, but Markus, could you please do me a favour and help me debug this. Please do not change any of your settings, and ideally, set up a further new account on a clean install and by copying your account settings on to the new one, try to replicate the problem.

Ideally, once we can replicate it, we can fix it.

Sure, no problem helping with the debugging. I'll get a couple of accounts setup on a system and ensure I can replicate the issue, then I'll try copying the items across. I'll do this initially with Mac OS X 10.4.10 and Safari 2. Will post back in a few mins

Just working on this issue now. I've created new OS accounts, plus I've also created one new SN account and may create a further one in a moment. At present the new account does not appear to have the problem, as you correctly suspected, so I'm going to mirror my normal SN account settings, one by one, to the new account and see if I can replicate exactly where the problem exists.

 

Have run a few tests and found the option that is causing the issue. It appears to be the Number of Posts to Show Per Page option, as you suspected it would be.

If this option is set to anything other than Use Forum Default then you will see the issue. If you switch it to Use Forum Default then you do not see the issue.

To verify that I'm not going loco, could anyone else with this problem please try the following to see if it fixes the issue:

1: Click here to get to the Edit Options screen for your profile. Scroll down and find the Number of Posts to Show Per Page option and change it from whatever value is selected to Use Forum Default, then scroll to the very bottom of the page and click "Save Changes"

2: Click here. This will take you to page 1 of the ScoobyNe Spec C article. Click here and see if it takes you to page 4, or if it simply returns you to page 1. Also try clicking the page numbers and the "« First" and "Last »" options to see if it takes you to the correct page or not.

If the above works, and by this I mean you can now see the other pages of the arcticle, then go back and edit your options, change Number of Posts to Show Per Page to something other than "Use Forum Default", save the changes, then repeat the test and see if you can get to the other pages. My guess is that you will not be able to do so.

Well that's odd.

It may have just appeared to be this way, but previously it seems that this effect only continued until you had logged out, and then back in again after viewing a second page.

Then you could have posts per page setting at anything you wanted.

OK, well Marcus, yet again.. as ScoobyNet's official Beta Tester and Debugging consultant ... that's given us much more to work on.. thank you.
