My car has recently become hard to start on the second start of the day.

The car will start fine first thing in the morning, but once it has been parked up, and the engine is almost cool, it takes 3 or 4 tries to start again.

I have changed the camshaft position sensor thinking it might be that, but it hasnt solved the problem.

Car is a widetrack blob, anybody know what the problem could be?

 

You're not touching the throttle prior to starting, are you?
The manual tells you that can flood it.

 

no im just turning the key with out touching the throttle.

 

I've had similar thing basically the engine thinks it's still in cold start mode, and bad starting once been started (choke full on) on old cars.


Was issues with ECU coolant temperature Sender. IIRC there are two one for the temp gauge and one for ECU. It's the ECU one and it's a bitch to get to.

Ps it might not be that but probably. Someone with delta dash monitor might help diagnose.

 

Are you leaving the key in the ignition on position for a second or two, if I don't do that mine struggles to start. I'm going to say fuel pump priming but I'm not 100% sure

 

yes I always let the fuel pump prime.

 

Thanks for that, car is being mapped on friday, (ecutek), will the mapper be able to check this?

 

IIRC he can monitor that input and it should show temp change. But it completely lost signal for very short time then works ok ish.

But It took three goes because it ran perfectly and would start
Normally once engine was warm/hot. But failed to start or struggled to start between 1-4 minute after cold start.

Also it as it only failed as warmed up although he went through the logs and managed to find a blip/failure on a long run.
