I have a 2002 wrx and the clutch is slipping like hell it's on its last legs!
Anyway I have a friend who is selling a brand new exedy clutch plate for sale will this be ok for me or do I need the full clutch kit?

 

Best to change the whole kit mate, no doubt you'll need a new bearing anyway so best to change everything

 

When you are doing a labour intensive job, trying to save money on materials is a fool's errand.

 

That's what I was thinking but I haven't got much cash spare at the moment so I was wondering if it would be the same if I bought the clutch plate and a new bearing separate!
I'm also having trouble getting hold of Aztec on here they don't seem to respond :-( bit of a shame as there exedy clutch kit is perfect and a great price

 

It is highly recommended to change the entire set. Clutch disc, cover and release bearing. Do it right, do it once.

Be sure to check the condition of the flywheel as well. If it's slipping badly, theres a chance the flywheel would've been glazed over. If so, you'd need to resurface the flywheel or get new one.

I,ve just had my clutch replaced. Got one from Aztec at a great price. As above, replace the complete clutch or you may be stripping it down again before you expected. Steve.

 

Putting a clutch friction plate with another pressure plate that have not been bed together will cause huge judder, not worth it. Flyeheel also needs refaced.

 

As everyone has already said, buy the whole kit or you may well end up doing the whole job again.

Put a new lightweight forged flywheel on at the same time to save messing around with skimming etc. A very nice upgrade and one of the best £ for £ modifications I did to my Impreza.

I don't need to change the flywheel do I? If need be I could get it skimmed as my friend is a machinist but I've been told I don't have to do the flywheel?

Aztec I did send a email over but never got a reply :-( I will definitely buy from you I've also been told I can have a 225mm clutch or 230mm they will both work as my car is never having power upgrades as such just exhaust decat bla bla

 

Yeh flywheel will need skimmed or you will end up with judder, ive had it on a previous subaru and its horrid, it will take your mate 5min to skim it.

I would fit the 230mm version for the sake of a few quid, it's bigger, stronger and is the size the car originally comes with from the factory.

I would always skim a flywheel if not upgrading it. The one time I didn't the car had absolutely horrid judder and I ended up having to do the whole job again

Flywheel surface needs to be completely flat and true.

 

My clutch friction plate smashed when I blew a gearbox. The gearbox garage tested the clutch pressure plate on a machine and clamping force was good so I just replaced friction plate,no problems (you can buy release bearing separate if your worried about that about £30) Also I have never had a flywheel scimmed in my life and I've had a few clutches fitted here n there. Im not saying everyone can get away without a scim but I don't think its as necessary as some people think. Depends how fussy you are but 4 wheel drives aren't the smoothest to pull away in anyway and probably get the slightest of judder even with the smoothest of flywheels.
