Finally a hawkeye sti owner !
After lurking for a while i'm now the proud owner of an 06 hawkeye sti with PPP 66k so slightly more than I was looking for but I love it, needs a bit of TLC to get it to my standard but i'm loving it. I need a front splitter...can anybody recommend one that fits well ?

Good torquey lump - pulls pretty good from 2500 rpm and strong from 3000.
Mild upgrade on the brakes plus Type 25 suspension makes it fun on the road and track.
130K since new and still get a buzz driving it.
Bit juicy as a daily driver, but luckily I like driving every day!
Enjoy

You only ever hear about headgaskets failing, you never hear about the ones that go on forever!
I don't think it's as bad as people make out the problem to be, just mud sticks unfortunately.
Great cars, had mine for 4 years now and only just had to do the gaskets. And I drove it hard. They finally went on the M1 doing 130 for about 2 junctions at 5 am lol.
As for the splitter, I only put a cheap fibre glass one on mine. Looks ok and fits fine. Given how often I catch it on a speed hump, the nicer carbon fibre ones are too expensive to risk.

Most have had engine builds now and very rare you hear about P1's blowing up, but I remember being on here 10 years ago and people saying stay away from P1's unless they had a build etc etc.Infact Subaru engines have always had a bad stigma, even the early classics, years ago where all going bang, and you would hear people joking about the chocolate subaru engines, and there dodgy cranks etc!!! But give it a few more years and most 2.5's will be forged, and to be honest a forged 2.5 makes a great roadcar with loads of torque!!!

Don't fret about a rebuild, just budget for one like you have said and just see it as an opportunity to improve when the time comes.

On the helpful side, generally warmed up before WOT, 5K fully synthetic oil changes and generally don't go above 5000 rpm when tracking or 6000 on the road. After all, what is the point?
I think the HGs went quite some time before I got the rebuild, just didn't get around to it. Eventually the bearings on no 4 and ringland failure on same cylinder made me go down the rebuild route. But that was probably caused by a fractured oil pipe in the end.
From my experience, when the HGs went, I should have got a rebuild, but I just got the HGs done by Extreme Scoobies in Essex at 90 K. They also replaced the clutch with an Exedy pink, so the OE clutch lasted 90K.
API did the forged rebuild at 103K for me and also put in a Competition Stage 2 clutch, as the "Exedy" clutch was faulty.
Done 30K and half a dozen track days in the mean time, so as far as I am concerned, the car doesn't really owe me anything.

Welcome to Hawk STi ownership - my Spec D did it's HG at 66k but like you, I had half expected it and have done another 30k very happy miles since getting it fixed. Mine has always used a fair amount of oil - you'll find some do and some don'
t but until you get to know your car I would check on a regular basis

Hi I have just brought a 2006 hawk WRX it's done 50k and is completely standard apart from window tints lol, will it have the same head gasket problems or is it just the STI models with more power that suffer?
WRX failures are uncommon but have been reported on here, the rate seems anecdotally to be quite a lot lower.
Just enjoy your car mate and don't worry about it.
Yeah I will mate, and thanks!
I have had wrx's in the past but not to concerned with Hugh bhp, if I'm honest it's fast enough as it is! My last blob felt absolutely bomb proof hoping the hawk lives up to that!!
