Default Can coilpacks be tested off the car ?

Suspect i have coil pack issues (95 wrx, single coils per plug etc) i have 2 good ones to maybe replace my faulty one (s)

my question, can the coils be tested, via a multimeter or not, i suspect one of more is breaking down at higher revs/higher boost

cheers

The only bit of help I can give is that Googling 'testing subaru coil packs' did bring up a YouTube vid of the "easy way to do it", which was using a multimeter (off car obviously).

Unfortunately the pack being tested was off a Mustang

From my VERY limited electrical knowledge I'd say that you can test them provided you know what the correct resistance(s) should be.

There were quite a few hits, so perhaps a bit more ferreting about than I did might help.

cheers guys LOL

i think from a bit of research, the only real way to see what a coil is kicking out is to use one of those SUN machines that you clamp around the wires etc and it reads the voltage at 2000 4000 6000 revs etc and tells you if its kicking out enough voltages :-0

ah well, the old laimens method, 1 out, 1 in LOL

Have you checked your replacements for cracks, Fred?

Carefully remove the rubber boot at the tip and inspect.

For the cost of them S/H now, you'd be better off converting to newage coil packs though.

Ay Up Bud

Yeah, checked the replacements for cracks, thats why i only have 2 out of the 4 to use LOL (but sorted that issue with the seller)

i could change to the newage etc but just dont want to change any more on this car ,it must have 3 versions of bits on it in various places LOL

A new model type then.

Impreza Frankenstein (or Chimera) - has a certain ring to it.
