Question Cambelt change help ;-)

Hi all
What's the easiest way to lock the two near side cam pullies together so they don't rotate when you remove the belt. '03 blobeye wrx

Lots of people recommend the put in 5th gear, and press the brake method to lock the camshafts and remove the bolt.

You can also buy the special tool for locking the camshaft.

If engine is in car can you remove gator around clutch fork and lock up the flywheel with big screwdriver or something? Then breaker bar (with scaffold tube) on cam wheel bolt. They are tight!!

I think the 2 above posters have cam and crank mixed up.

There is no easy way to lock the cams and no real need. They will move but are easily put back into position. If you have metal pulleys a pair of mole grips will lock them together

I think he doesnt want the pulleys turning not removing the pulleys.
There are no locking tools. It can be fiddly to get the belt back on and sometimes another pair of hands helps

Read this and watch meaty clips on you tube. This is how I did mine.

They move but are easy to put back in position.

Here you go!

No I know he means cam,but if you lock crank then cams wont move. If its only to keep them in place to change belt then grips will work (is easier with two people) but wont hold if your trying to undo cam bolt. When i done mine my friend was on crank nut whilst I was on cam bolt pulling opposite ways.

Go onto you tube and type in "wrx timing belt replacement". There are 5 videos. Just click suggested after viewing and the next comes up.
