Unhappy

I have recently crashed my STI IV type R. Boohoo! Got caught out by the power in the rain whilst showing off.
I wasn't fully comp insured and am having to fork out of my own pocket.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of costs and the best methods of getting it repaired as cost effectively as poss?
Currently GGR has the car and I have read not good things about them, and I have a feeling the are going to try and pile it on.
A good oppinions from poeple who used to be in the bussiness has suggested a figure half that of GGR. What shall I do?

Please advise as I miss her terribly.
I don't know how to attach a photo.

Joseph

I'm sure it won't but just to help those with legacy (not the scoob) links, resize the photo & re-upload.

Wink

Firstly Joseph, get it out of GGR! I had a syncromesh go in second gear on my last car. I told them the problem so expected a speedy repair. Oh no! After a week i called them and found out it was being blasted around the track to be tested (after I told exactly what was wrong with it!) then I had to wait another two weeks for the work to be carried out. Apparently they didnt do their own work on gearboxes, so another firm carried out the work. So after 3 long weeks, i got the car back after paying a hefty £950. I have since found out that this is WAY over the odds since it should have been nearer £300-£400.
I would call around places advertised in exchange and mart for example, for second hand or new parts since youre paying out of your own pocket, and get a reputible local outfit to fit the required parts.

That's only some small bodywork, nothing a bit of polish won't fix!

Naaa, buy parts secondhand and put them on yourself. It's only a hood and a bumper and then some. You can do it yoursel M8!

IMHO GGR have always been pricey.
When I needed a rebuild last year they were way more £££ than anyone else. (ballpark figures though, not detailed quote)

Why send it to GGR?
If it's just bodywork, then any bodyshop could do it.
Call someone who imports/services/repairs STis.
I'd recommend Lockyear cars.
I've never used them, but whenever I've spoken to them on the phone they've always given good sound advice (for free!).
Seem sound to me.
Good luck!
Nick

Cool

Thanks for your advice guys.

The reason for GGR is I only had the car 2 weeks and didn't know the ups and downs of the trade.
I had phone GGR as it was the first and most advertised company I had seen.
Mr GG phoned me back and was very charming he said he would do the best job of anyone at the cheapest price and in the shortest time as he stocked most of the parts. He came and picked it up in a flash trailer and dissappeared.
Anyhow thanks to u all I have found other people that say they can do the same work for a third of the price.
My next problem will be to get my car back from GGR without ridiculous costs for storage.
Once again thanks.
