Default Why does my oil only stick to one side of the dipstick?

As the title says. When i pull the stick out the oil is only on one side of it and nothing on the other. When i put the stick in the other way round i get oil on the dry side (so its now on both sides).

Is it just mine that does this? As surely the stick is being dipped into a bath of oil and so it should show the same on both sides.

I have a same kind of problem, when dipping the oil one side shows more than the other so I always go with the lowest and top up if needed.

It's because it's a boxer engine. The underneath of the dipstick is what you should be looking at

They like a flat surface to be accurate plus you have to put the stick in the right way and read off the side with the letters the opposite side won't be accurate in my experience

I had a ball ache checking mine on weds, there was barely any oil on the tip of the sick, so i chucked about half a litre in and its now over filled to the little notch above the max mark!

Gonna do an oil change on it, stick 4.5l of oil in and then just mark the stick at whatever it reads at i reckon...

If its warm then its suppose to be at that notch but if it was cold then it shouldn't, like I said before its very funny if you even slightly off level ground

I had driven the 10 miles to work, and left it about half an hour and it was at the notch. so yes, it was warm.
