I've only ever paid for the collision damage waiver: £25 or a £1,000 excess. But don't bother anymore since they got rid of the Justy.

seems to becoming the norm these days
dealer apoligised but said insurance rates were too much to justify no charge at all

edit to say think it was only a tenner though
and no charge for the petrol and i know i used more than a tenners worth

mine appologised too.
its too much for them to have insurance for their cars.
i dont have a problem with that.

but its money for nothing for the insurance company.
i mean, the car i am getting is worth 1/3 of my car.
and while my car is in the dealers its under their insurance...

chatted to the insurance company.. theres no way round it... they explained why... 2 options:
1> change car details, but gotta be an owner of the car.
2> add an additional car.

so it has to be no. 2

Fair enough. Still think charging for it is a joke.

cost nothing to put an extra driver on my policy for 2 weeks last year.

when i had a hire car when my car was written off the insurance company just added it onto my policy for no charge, although i bet they will include it as a cost of the claim i am making.

I see no reason why you shouldn't name the company - your only stating facts.

Maybe just luck or cos I'm an old git

But both wifey and I have always been able to switch for temporary cover of a courtesy car with no charge. Only time payment has been requested was for using dealers policy (declined their kind offer).

But last time running late & couldn't be arsed with the phone call. Just ran their Sport on Third Party cover, as with all that power I didn't expect to bend it

Phil,

I've only ever paid a £10 admin fee for the cover note for the loan car.

Aren't you covered under the Dealers policy??

Just had the same problem with Greenlight yesterday. They wanted to charge me to insure the loan car with the explaination that I would have two cars at risk at once. Even explaining that I'd have hoped that my car would be covered under the dealers insurance whilst they were servicing it didn't help. Greenlight were not at all helpful and that goes against all my other experience of them.

Big cheers to Donalds of Peterborough though for not charging for their cars.

Blues.

I had the same thing, paying £35 quid every service to use a Justy was a little hard to stomach. I changed my insurer last year to Bell Direct, and I think it's only £15 through them each time, which is better.
You wouldnt mind so much if it was an Sti or WRX they gave you, but for a GX Impreza or similar!! I think the dealers should put something in place with their insuruers.

My insurance policy states:

"...The policyholder may also drive a private motor car not belonging to him ... as long as the policyholder has the owner's permission to drive the car"

This is Third Party cover only, the debate would be whether a car owned by the garage is private. I think you also have to inform the insurance co. of the details before you drive the car.

I have done this previously and not paid any extra. TP cover should be adequate for normal use for a day.

We ask our customers to insure our cars. In 95% of cases there is no charge.

Forgot to add that while your car is in the dealers custody and control it's covered on the dealers insurance.

I'm sure my insurance says that I can use courtesy car/hire cars etc. Check yours. My Dealer makes me sign a form agreeing to a £300 excess on their insurance.
