Hi All,
i need abit of help and i know all you hold the answers haha - ive always loved my cars always understood what does what and how things work etc, but never actually got my hands dirty, i look at the project threads and would LOVE to be able to work on my own car (mainly so i dont have to get shafted having to pay a mechanic. what do you all recommend doing as a good starting point to get used to working with the internals etc. My service is due and i have all the parts but scared to death of touching anything incase i brake it haha. i was thinking of buying a non-running and trying to restore?
any help would be appreciated

ive looked at a few vids online - santas bringing me a front mount and was gonna fit that as vids look fairly easy .... im sh!tting it knowing you have to take the bumper and wings off lol
It's not too bad removing bodywork, just the little clips you might want some spare ones. Most front mounts need the bumber cutting, and the rear bumper supports removed, they tend to rust fairly bad. What model do you own?

As above plenty of help online, and fitting a FMIC as a first job im not too sure about it if you not very handy with tool, isn't a hard job tio do BUT cutting the bumper will take time as you will have to measure 10 times and cut once.

As above: front Mount would NOT be my first job, in fact I bottled it and had Darren do it at DLM in Darlington, an expert if ever there was one.

Get on with it. I have no technical background regarding cars but do all my own servicing on my daily and the impreza. Also just ripped out the 2.1 from my old car to go in the P1. Have stripped it to a short block and will be rebuilding it and fitting it in the P1.
Most things are fairly easy TBH. Put it this way the first job I did on an Impreza was change my gearbox and clutch and managed that in 6 hours

if your worried about servicing your car i wouldnt even wast the £500 on another car as that will just end up sitting then being collected by a scrap yard......
just remember how you removed a part and it will go back (most of the time)
start with basic service items......
air filter (if this becomes difficult...give up....probably for ever and dont go near the car again!!)
oil and filter cahnge......easy!
spark plugs...can be tricky but just take your time.
brake pads and discs......you may need a breaker bar for the bolts!
and before you know it you will be doing fully forged engine builds.

Service kits not hard exactly its just having the right tools and a bit of patience, these days there are even video tutorials on how to do everything.
I would reccomend buying a poly suspension bush kit as a fun and easy job, I assume you have a trolley jack and a set of axel stands.
As above fmic is a waste of time unless your running crazy horses.
