Default Out with the old, in with the new!

Well after being made a great offer from a buyer 300 miles away the WRX sold last Saturday. I would have been gutted but the buyer paid £1600 without even attempting to knock me down at all. So off she went...

So, after several months now of being offered a Type R local to me I finally plucked up the courage to make a silly offer......

I paid £2500 for it Thursday! I believe it to be a Version 4. It's tatty, been scratched here and there and for some strange reason has a tow bar and one of those power unit's attached to the back as if it's been used to tow a caravan or something lol.

Of course. I thought it would set me back a bit but then on second thoughts i've saved £300 as I don't have to buy STI heads now lol.

Thanks bud. It's tatty but in reality the project would eventually include a respray in one of two colours I want (not white) so bodywork condition wasn't a consideration.

Thanks I'm still shocked if I'm honest, £900 difference between the 2. I was first offered it for £4k. I also didn't expect more than £1k for my WRX either.
I just need to find out how to make the most of the DCCD, what colour code it is and whether it is a version 4 or not. Previous registration was a T reg.

A good deal there for the 900 quid difference, Get the applied model number of the top of the passenger strut, That will tell you what year/revision it is and also has the colour/option codes too.

I'll be honest, It's a completely different car to the WRX and I'm trying to adapt.
As much as I like the idea of the DCCD and short ratio box, I'm forever changing gear, and that's on B roads. It's spooling as early as 3k so as much as I try to blend in with traffic when commuting its either wanting to go or change up a cog.
The WRX was more a split personality, a normal, driveable, everyday car up to 4k rev's, then quick when you wanted to go beyond.
This is like a one trick pony, very very good at it though, but the spool is too early for me and before you know it you're racing nobody.

You ll get used to it soon enough mate. Then discover what these cars are all about

Who knows what the spec of your car is, best bet take your car to someone who knows these cars inside out. it needs mapped sooner rather than later !

It's relatively standard, Giant back-box, Induction Kit and that's it. I need to find the time to really get under the bonnet, but new job and possibly new house is taking its toll.
The plan was to take it to Dorset next weekend as my Father-In-Law now wants one but 2 trips to the petrol station in 3 days says that may not be the best idea.

I'm not complaining lol, it's just that the WRX had an element of practicality about it, this is just screaming to be thrashed all the time.

Youll soon after a 6 speed box perhaps. What power figures are you chasing with the engine build ? The dccd box should safe to run 360/360 depending on driving style and no launches.

Possibly a 6 speed in future. I'm looking for 400/400 so the plan would be, build bottom end. Remove and sell current bottom end and gearbox, skim, port etc current heads for 2.1, new gearbox in, new engine in then poo myself.

Oh and at some point exhaust, turbo, FMIC, Injectors etc lol.
