Default Pulling to the left

Hi all,

WRX STi Spec D 07/07 24k miles.

I'm getting a bit concerned about how my Scoob seems to pull to the left slightly.

Sometimes it happens when I put the clutch down to change gear, but more often happens if I'm in gear, get the RPM up a bit and take my foot off the acc. pedal keeping it in gear.

It's like the front wheels want to tuck away and to the left in a stange way.

I've heard stories of "diff wind up" - whatever that is, but I'm hoping it's not a serious issue.

It's not lane changing pulling by any means, it's only slight, but it's there.

4 new Toyo T1R tyres. This has stopped the tramlining instantly, but they give more body roll, so won't be getting those again.
I did have Bridgestone Potenza RE070's which were on the standard 17" wheels which i got with the car (Rota 18" GR-A in Steel Grey were actually on the car when I bought it - for sale hint hint!)

So, when putting the 17" wheels on, I didn't know which corner they had come from, but the pulling seemed to stop after 1000 miles or so - perhaps once each tyre found itself with the corner it's on if you see what I mean.

4 wheel alignment required?
Never been done on the car according to the records (FSSH).

Hello mate,

Not had that problem myself, definetly get it in for a 4 wheel alignment for starters BUT do make sure they have the gear and the knowledge to do it. I am sure someone on here will know someone close to where you are to correct it.

Regards
Neil

Gary or Julian @ Micheldever Tyers are probably your best bet for a proper full front & rear alignment

Looking like 4 wheel alignment first, that was the reaction I was hoping for.

Fingers crossed they find that some / all of the wheels are slightly out and it gets sorted.
I do have an MOT advisory of "slight play on N/S/R shock absorber pivot"

Top mount? I can hear it knocking slightly, but would this jeapourdise and accurate reading when the alignment gets checked? I suspect it might?

Would check the tyres pressure first before you do anything. Couple of PSI down on the left hand side would cause the same issue

I had similar on my spec d. Would tighten into the corner on lift off. Get yourself some rear camber bolts ( £20 ) and have the alignment setup. I had some fitted and they dialed out the lift off movement a lot.

No offence bud, and thank you for your reply, but not quite sure what you mean? Can you describe that differently?

Where do the bolts get fitted?

I found that when going around a corner on throttle if I lift off to change gear etc. the car would move into the corner a little. I bought some camber bolts and had them fitted to the rear. They allow the rear alignment to be setup as there is not much ( if any ) rear camber adjustment available.

Ok, I can relate to that yes.

But my problem seems (or rather feels) like it coming from the front, but on a 4 wheel drive, I guess it's not easy to tell?

Update.

had the 4 wheel laser alignment done today (for the price of a packet of ****!) and so far, only live 10 miles from work, I think this problem is sorted.

The car drives very differently, and will let you know how I get on.
Cornering has improved, and even in a straight line feels much much better - not so nervous now......I think!
