Default Turbo noise

Hi All,

Sorry for all the questions, but as I learn more I'll be able to answer questions for others in the future I suppose!

My turbo makes an odd noise when it first comes onto boost. It's nothing to do with the engine being cold as I always warm it up nicely. I can't really describe the sound, it's like a loud whirring or something. It only does it the first couple of times that it comes onto boost, it's as if its dry and then the first spins get some oil around it or something because it then stops.

I hope that makes sense?!?!

Hi,

Oil level is fine, had a new rad a few weeks ago and did all the levels. It's made the sound pretty much since I bought it in Feb. I've only joined the forum recently so haven't had a chance/made the time to ask anyone about it

Just a thought, it may have only been happening after changing from the recirc dump valve to a HKS SSQV? Is that possible?

My apologies if I read your post wrong but you shouldn't be hitting boost if your engine is cold mate

Is the SSQV buggered at all? It's a legit one isn't it, as there have been lots of fakes floating around of recent.

Best of luck anywho.

Hi Chocolate,

Yes you mis read! The engine is always warmed up, but the turbo still makes the noise. The HKS was bought second hand off of eBay so potentially moody.

I'm off on Wednesday so I'm going to put the standard one on and give it a trial. The HKS was fun for a bit but the noise is a little much for me now!!

Deffo re-fit the old one and see if the noise disappears.

Ok, so I refitted the standard valve this morning. No change to the noise from the turbo and I actually miss the sound!

Disappointed and still baffled...........
