im dazols, im from essex and am after some info from you guys please. im after buying a 2007-2008 impreza WRX but not sure if there is anything to look out for. as you guys know more them most people i thought it would be a great place to start

i have not had a subaru before im more into the toyota side of things but a bigger family car is needed but i still want to keep in the jap club scene, do like going to meets and shows with my current car. so would like to do the same with the scooby.

so any info would be really appreciated

as long as its got a full service history and no obvious problems, you cant go wrong!

 

ok thats fine, what is the service like on them is it best to get it always done at a subaru dealer? and whats cost like?

i have just seen one up for sale on here and he says his is in the cheaper tax bracket, what there a tax change on the 2006 model?

not necessarily, as long as you get the oil on plugs changed when needed you should be fine, however a full subaru history is nice to have come selling on!

Servicing is best to be done by a specialist there will be someone near you or you can travel abit but you will save £100'.s over a main dealer.
Here is the change in take bracket . Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006
As a general rule if its before a 55 plate you currently pay £260 rather than £445 currently..

Any reason why you want a WRX and not an STI or is it because of family car?

Also look in the forum ESSEX scooby crew have their own section and have an annual tunnel run around October/November time.

 

thanks mate will do. i have been looking at the WRX as im going to need to use this as an everyday driver so just working out costs and think the smaller power will be a bit better. and also the insurance is a lot to have this car over the one i have now LOL. i have spoken to some insurance companies and they have said it should only be for the first year and then should come back down.

my current car is only 140 ish bhp so a bit of a jump

 

I drive my STI to work everyday be it only 5 miles. The first year Insurance is not cheap, I went from a 170HP vauxhall to an STI and my insurance premium trebled, I found the specialists will insure you competitively after the first year assuming your over 25 and live in decent postcode etc etc.
I guess it depends if you can afford a WRX now and later on an STI, I wanted the STI so jumped in from day one and dont regret it two years later and a few £1000's lighter.

 

Hi there personally i would go with JDM STi or JDM WRX,you will find them much expensive,but worth every penny and really will worth in longer run,if you want them modified in later stage

i have had a quote of £850 - £900 for it, i am 32 and have 6 years NCB and no points. i currently have a celica gen7 fully modded and pay £500 so didnt think that was to sad. the first quote i got from Adrian flux how im with now was £1900.

now the only thing im concerned about is the road tax. so may look at a 55plate but that will be the old shape one?

 

well after some home work and a look at costs im now thinking of going for the blobeye over the hawkeye. i do love the look of the hawkeye but just cant justify the extra running cost. so the blob eye it will be. is the sti really that much different from the WRX? as its not going to cost as much i may look at the STI.

 

Blob over Hawkeye running costs will be about the same . WRX vs STI running costs will be different . The STI is more " hardcore " than the WRX stronger engine, six speed gearbox , stiffer suspenson , more horsepower standard, sportier interior, Brembo Brakes.
Go for a test drive and you will soon see the difference.

The best of the bunch are the Japanese cars or JDM no much more to run or Insure just stronger engines more power standard and can be modified for even more power than the uk car on standard internals. The only thing is finding them , they are rarer more sort after and can sometimes command a higher price although a few people have had bargains lately.

Lots of advice on the forums , traders, specialists, mappers that can help you keep the overall running costs down compared to using a main dealer.
