I am new here so be nice.

I am seeking advice on what to buy and what to look for, I have been a member of other car forums before and they are always very helpful so I thought this was the best place to ask.

My situation:

I am changing jobs in the summer time for a much more local job so my economical oil burning golf is no longer needed and I can finally afford to run the car I have pined for since my first ride in my dads impreza at the tender age of 14!
I have been looking round and I think an STI blob eye is the model for me, however the confusion now starts, it appears there are a few different models within this range, i.e. PPP's and versions 8's, DCCD's???

All very confusing.

I will be looking to spend £7500 max bear in mind this will be in 5 months time (a little more saving is required) is the price for these cars dropping? A friend says in a few months they will have dropped a good amount?

So what do you guys reckon is the best car for my budget? forget insurance etc just wondering what is the best model/s?

hi mate welcome to the forums,

If I was buying today id probably buy the same model your are looking at. You want the MY05 Blob as its slightly updated nicer interior , wider track flared rear arches,DCCD and a few other features over the previous model. With that budget you'll be looking at a uk car , not an import which are rarer better but will probably be more expensive to buy. The prices of these cars are dropping the time so you can get yourself a bargain.
The DCCD is drivers control differential allows to adjust the torque between front and rear wheels.
The ppp is prodrive performance pack by prodrive.Lots of advice and mappers read these forums if you want more power.

My advice would be test drive a few first and see how much power your comfortable with first.

 

i take it by your username your 21, have you got a quote yet for an sti?
i would think its going to be several thousand pounds.
but as said above the late blobs are the best version to go for.

 

thanks for the info chaps, i'll be 22 by the time I buy it and with 5 years no claims and on a 6 car policy its not too bad at all, just over £1500 for the addition of an sti

 

i wouldnt bother with the ppp tbh an ecutek remap would make the car run far better.

 

So takig that the MY05 is the right choice, what kind of mileage is acceptable at that price, also does the PPP add much of a premium?

 

the ppp is not really worth looking for, it does add a premium but it really is only 1 cat removed an an exhaust and remap, an aftermarket remap by a respected tuner will be far better and get more power.
it will add more second hand though.

 

Id be looking something around 50k miles or less. Go with full service history subaru or specialist, insure the cambelt was done at 50k miles or 5 years whichever came sooner. Big services can cost £500 - £600 with a specialist more with a dealer.

 

Thanks for the help, I have a bit more of an idea what i'm looking for now, and just to clarify the PPP is not really needed? it's just I have read (only magazine reviews) it turns the car into a much more drive-able car, i'm presuming an aftermarket exhaust and a map would do much of the same?

 

you will see better performance from a custom map its not a generic map like prodrive its specific to your car. Will probably put the price of your insurance up though.

 

Welcome, and yes go for a sti blob for sure, but that's what I have so would say that. as already said don't worry about the ppp. If it is remaped and exhaust is changed it's not really a ppp anymore anyway.

 

I would not dismiss the ppp, i used to be one that said the above as well but now that i have a car with it i think it's not too bad.

Ok it's not car specific but it is nice and safe and more about torque than bhp, lots of people slate it because the numbers appear not to add up to the cost, but having had the same year car one with an ecutec aftermarket map and one with the ppp there is not a lot in it, and the main thing i would say is the ppp has 90k miles, where as the other engine which had the specialist map let go after around 30k due to running lean at the top end, so not all that glitters is gold.

I agree with the comments about going for an 05 blob sti, it's the one i would have if they made it in a wagon.

Usual rules apply as with any car purchase, i would also suggest you buy one off someone that knows a lot about subarus, and when you find one post a link on here and all the lads will give you the benefit of their combined wisdom.
