Nick

I am looking at buying a new car this week for the same budget - £5k. I was after a Scoob, but decided that I couldnt afford to run the bloody thing.

Therefore I am going for a Rover 220 Turbo Coupe or a 3dr Rover 220 GSi Turbo. 200BHP, 32mpg, fun to drive and you can get a good 95M/96N for about £4-5k. Insurance is £800 fully comp.

Found one today - Tahiti Blue 3dr GSi Turbo, 96N, FSH, 49k miles. £3995. It was a minter but he sold it last night - gutted

Have you thought about a 'Pug' ???

I recon for that money you'd get a pretty good 405 Mi16 or 205 GTi 1.9. Not 'scooby' performance by a long shot, but not bad for the money.

Here's a cut n paste from 'www.autotrader.co.uk' . . .

1993 L PEUGEOT 405 2.0 Mi, Green Metallic, 69000 miles, 4 Door, Alloy Wheels, Central Locking, Electric Sunroof, Electric Sunroof, Electric Windows, Finance Arranged, Power Steering, Warranty Given. £3495 (T) Tunstall Car Sales Tel: 01782 817707

PEUGEOT 205 1.9 GTi, K reg. metallic grey, Special Edition, black, green half leather interior, average miles, FSH, all bills & MOT's, PAS, stereo, electric windows, alloys, full glass, sunroof, immobiliser, hpi clear, immaculate throughout, (A proper GTi), drives like new,. £2,295. Tel: 01942 671365 or.07714 7974 anytime. (T)

ST185 Celica GT4, easily get a late model one of these, in either UK or Import spec. 200-220bhp, go forever, and over engineered.

Cheers

1996 306 XSi?
Get a white one with the 8V engine.
From Hertfordshire wold be best.

From someone who is waiting for his Impreza to arrive would be the ideal person.

A Toyota MR2 Turbo... you could get a mint one for 5K... insurance is high though...
easily tuned to 250+ bhp.... I only sold mine because I needed to fit the baby daughter in... it was faster than a UK scoob.... mid engined and rear wheel drive... excellent fun... reliable.. etc etc..

Cool

What about a Polo G40.........? Supercharged, quicker than you think I promise you, VW build quality & a great Q car. You could pick up a mint one for that money & probably never lose money on it.
Easily chipped to 150 BHP - and only weighs 740kg

One of the G40 Superchargers was playing in Milton Keynes last week. Fscking nippy little thing that really is a Q car... I'd be tempted just for a laugh as this thing was fast and obviously light!

What sort of mileage do you want to do?

A Lotus Sunbeam is in your budget and would be great fun if you don't thrash the miles onto it.

Don't even think about buying a Peugeot (or any French car) for that kind of money. It'll fall to bits before your eyes. Nightmare to work on too.
