Hello everyone!
Hello everyone!
I thought I would may as well join up and introduce myself and my Subaru.
So hello everyone!
I'm a 30yr old female and I live down on the Isle of Wight.
I have loved cars my whole life and own 6, yes SIX, cars in total.
I started going to track days just over a year ago with my BMW and ended up getting the bug for it.
BUT since my BMW was my daily car and cost me a lot of my savings I decided to keep my eye open for a car I could use for track days.
It had to be big enough, powerful enough and...........dare I say.....expendable
After browsing e-Bay etc I was thrilled to find out that my next door neighbour had put his Subaru Impreza up for sale.
I was really pleased as it was a car I new from a seller I knew so I went around, knocked the door and bought it.
The plan was to use it for track days instead of the BMW. If it got damaged or written off then it didn't matter, it was expendable.
I had never driven a Scooby in my life and the plan to have it as an expendable track car seems to have vanished as I have indeed fallen in love with the Scoob!
It is a 1998 "Turbo 2000".
I will admit here and now that, despite owning several cars, I don't know much about the mechanical side of cars - particularly the more modern cars with all computerised bumph.
So please forgive me if I stare blanky when asked if a car has been "chipped" or "re-mapped".
Here is a photo of my Scooby...

Despite not knowing the technical side of things, I love driving it!
I'm not keen on the sticker numberplate on the bonnet.
I asked at my local police station when I bought it and they said it was "Not ideal but acceptable" (and they put it in writing).
But I am still not sure as I thought numberplates had to be a) vertical and b) have some sort of identifying mark to trace the manufacturer?
The bonnets lacquer is peeling in places and has several scrapes and scratches. That is being resprayed in a weeks time and the sticker numberplate is being binned.
The car overall is very good indeed.
I've not had any issues or breakdowns and it went straight through it's last MOT with just a rear numberplate bulb needing replacement.
I do intend to do a track day with it when I have some holiday so it should be pretty fun.
The only drawback I have noticed with the Scooby is that I have a job that requires me leaving for work at 3am in the morning, and at this time of day..... oh how the Police love to follow it to do stolen vehicle checks!
I suppose I shouldn't moan as I guess I'd be gratefull if my car was ever pinched and they had it stopped 10 minutes down the road?
Anyway, that's my Scooby!
As I said I am new to the world of Subaru and the Impreza so I have no idea if my Scooby is rubbish, good or whatever.
Are there anymore Isle of Wight-ers here? I notice we do seem to have quite a few Subaru's here?
Thanks for reading and please be gentle

Here's a pic of the Scoob with "Louie" the quattro

It's a shame the Scoob isn't a bit older.
I have the 2.2 turbo Audi quattro insured fully comp for less than £200 as it's old enough the be on a classic car policy. The Scoob...over £700

You are a lady of extremely good taste! Can't see the pic though.
I do appolgise that it isn't taken with the Subaru though but I'll have to put that right somewhen...

And MicaDan, try the photo now
Good evening, I take it you like to track at Brands and Castle Coombe?
I know 2 lads on the Isle of Wight with a Mazda MX3 track car, painted in the Gulf colours. It has a 200bhp 2.5 V6 engine in it (which I supplied!) and goes like stink. Its as quick as a 911 round Castle Coombe and is definately fun on a budget.
Enjoy the Scoob, and get your name down for a trip to the Nurburgring next year (i'll post once I start arranging it).

Yes Castle Combe is my track of choice!
I've loved it the two times I've been before. A really amazing day out!
I had to have the exhaust tinkered with my a local performance place as it was too loud for Castle Combe's sound limit when I first got it.
Thank you all for the lovely welcomes!
I won't waffle about my non Subaru cars too much as that's a bit off topic so I'll just say that if anyone wants to see my other cars just add my on Facebook "Anni Ruecroft"

Castle Combe is a fantastic track! I once had a big off there though in a touring car spec Cosworth at Quarry. I was invited for the Race and Rally Tribute Day and had a tap from a Mk1 Escort and nearly wiped out a Dialynx Short-sport!!!!

CC is a great track but just not long enough for something with 200+ bhp. Most corners are 2nd/3rd gear apart from the start/finish straight. Its more of a sprint track really.
Did my 1st ever trackday there, in the wet! Will never forget aquaplaning down the start/finish at 100mph, now that was a ploppy pants moment!

I'll be arranging a trip next year mate, once the tourist days and motorsport calendar are announced at the end of Jan/mid Feb.
Will post up with details nearer the time. I usually give people all the details then you get 4 months to get everything together so theres no rush.

Not a cork-head, im on the main land 'southampton' lol.
Scoob looks in good nick, pitty the stick on number plate wasn't stuck on straight. If you peel it off dont forget to heat it up with your hair dryer first so you dont lift the paint with it.

.Re-mapping uses the existing ecu, whereas chipping uses a different or "piggy-back" chip to get the desired results as the standard ecu is not mappable (in this case, yours).
